Sean:

I totally relate that diversity should never be over looked. I teach cultural diversity, it is critical to observe, learn, discuss, and process the values established by all cultures

I had to scroll through my colleagues' responses to see how folks were handling the question, especially the naturalist and existential intelligences. John Grubb answered it better than I could.

Interpersonal-They are seeking their teammates and the entire class is involoved.

Logical/Mathematical-They will have to destinquish who they have asked and has what they need or not and who they still need to approach to ask if they have what they need or not.

Spatial/Visual-Each step given could be written out on colored index cards. Once each team is formed, the process will become visual.

Musical-Fun, fast, and frantic music is playing giving an illusion of urgency and fun.

Linguistic/Verbal-Students must express themselves verbally when asking each other about each other "steps". Each step is also "written" on each card/paper.

Intrapersonal-Each student is responsible as an individual to find the others they will need.

Bodily/Kinesthetic-Each student will be required to move to find individuals they will need to successfully find the other 4 and then to sequentially align the students in the proper order of steps.

Emotional-Exercise is just fun.

Naturalist-weak...if it is nice, this exercise could be preformed outside in nature.

Existential-Define purpose within the debriefing questions asked.

Modeling the skills of others and listening to the experiences of others help facilitate learning.

Very informative and helpful in learning.

Dianne,
this is a great synopsis of this activity. It also serves to show how we can design our own learning activities to really engage all types of learners.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

It makes the students initially work alone, becoming a team as they add people. While this is going on, music is playing and the students are moving around the room given both written and spoken directions. It is also a fun way for the students to get to know each other.

Diversity can work in great ways in a classroom. Besides using the strengths and weaknesses the team fins out, they can also use the backgrounds of each team member. Each team members brings a unique plate to the table.

• Interpersonal: this is a group/team exercise.
• Intrapersonal: what is my strategy to locate the other students, and to be on the winning team.
• Linguistic/verbal: verbal and nonverbal cue among the student would be indicators of where each student is in the activity.
• Spatial/visual: following the instructions given and putting together the pieces of the puzzle/activity.
• Musical: provided by the instructor to facilitate the learning process.
• Kinesthetic: movement and interaction with the learning environment, classmates, and instructor.

Thank you,
Deborah

This exercise would map to seven of the Multiple Intelligences:
Interpersonal - the students must work together and with each other to find the other four people to complete the list of 5.

Linguistic/verbal - the students must speak to each other to learn who has the other aspects of the list.

Bodily Kinesthetic - the students have to move around to speak to and interact with the others on their list.

Logical/mathematical - students must be able to put themselves in the correct order.

Musical - students are listening to music that is stimulating and encourages quick movement.

Spatial/visual - students will see the see the logic of the correct order of placement

Existential - students will gain an apptitude for understanding their purpose in the list.

Kinesthetic-move around to find others
Interpersonal-they need to interact with others
visual and auditory-seeing and speaking involved
musical-hearing the music
Intrapersonal-relating the five steps of stress management
linguistic-reading

Alisa,
it really does & it allows the students to hear their classmate's perspectives.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Diversity plays a major role in discussion because it helps to expand the concept of topics.

•Multiple Intelligence: Intrapersonal, Linguistic / Verbal, Spatial / Visual, Musical, Logical / Mathematical, Interpersonal, Bodily / Kinesthetic, Naturalist, Existential

The student can think over their actions, intrapersonal.
They listen to music - musical
They organize themselves into an order - logical/mathematical
They move around to get themselves arranged - spatial.
They talk to each other - linguistic/verbal

Thanks,
Lori Hules

Lydia,
and the more we can model those skils of hearing & listening to another's opinions the more our students will learn from us.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Yes it is. We all have things we can learn from others. When listening to students we cannot always be on the offensive. Leraning the skill of others opion is something I have been working on for years and this course has ensured me that I am on the correct path. Reaching students in all sort of ways is very important to me and my team of other instructors

Intrapersonal - Students must work with each other to acheive the objective

Logical/Mathematical - There is a logical order to the five steps that must be achieved

Spatial/Visual - Students must arrange themselves in the room as well as reading the steps

Musical - There is a type of music playing that relates to the social activity occurring in the room

Linguistic/Verbal - Students must talk with each other in order to discover the steps they have.

Bodily / Kinesthetic - The activity has students moving all the way until it's completion.

Emotional - The activity is is competitive and fun as well as being about stress which usually is accompanied by emotional content.

Naturalist - The activity has minimal mapping for this type of intelligence.

Existential - Each student has a purpose in the activity and all are a vital part of it's completion.

Lydia,
and the ability to listen to another's opinions/ideas & ask questions in a non-offensive way is a key professional skill.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

I agree with diversity. I try my best in every class that I have team projects to make sure that students with different views are not in the same groups. This has brought out great discussion especially in the case where the students have to discuss medical legal ethics.

Class should start with appropriate music, so that students are relaxed. Instructor should maintain strict time schedule to complete the day’s agenda or, appropriate segment mentioned in the syllabus.
