Dixie- I could see where storage would be a real issue- especially if sharing the room with other instructors as I do teaching evenings. I assume you've found a way to store electronically to solve that issue? Share the wealth (of knowledge)!

I would venture that it allows them to personalize the work- imagining for self how they might have handled the same challenge. Would it then be helpful to keep and use actual examples of previous student's work to use as these examples? (Sort of a "best of" collection?)

Hi Linda,
Absolutely! By seeing an example it is no reason a student should produce poor work.

Hi Melissa,
How does showing examples in the current course help students?
Patricia

So the students know what to expect in the next course.

This gives students a good model to help them develop a good quality completed assignment.

I agree Amy,
Give an example, get a result. Those small measures one takes to ensure the success of a project enhances the learning and creativity of students.

Interresting thought, give them an exapmle of the least acceptable and best acceptable. Doesn't that give the borderline student the opportunity to do the least possible to succeed? How would you cinsider working with that individual?

Reduce stress related to unknown expectatons, acceptablity, and techniques

I believe that showing students an example of upcoming work can give them an understanding of what is expected, and can also serve as an example of how they should approach a particular assignment as well as taking away some of the anxiey allowing for a much smoother approach to the upcoming assignments. So that they can have a clear understanding of what is expected of them. To eliminate misunderstanding and confusion.

Hello James,

Showing or giving a demonstration to students is certainly a good method that is particularly helpful in face-to-face classes!

Hello Instructor Scales,

It is important to show students examples of the work they will be doing in the upcoming course because it gives students a sense of direction and what to expect in the course.

Hi Anthony,
How does showing an example help students understand the value of the work assignment?
Patricia

The students need to understand the value of the work assignment to make it interesting for the student

It will give them suggestions on what to expect and ideas on how to prepare for work that will be turned in. Some students have a hard time mentally picturing work assignments and this can cause some frustration or anxiety. If an example is given this not only prevents frustration but also helps them see what is expected to reduce anxiety and provide confidence and motivation to the student.

For them to see the practical value of what they will be doing, as to helpfulness to society, and ro, themselves, and thier self worth.

This is a very good way for the students to see what the expectations are to achieve the grade they want. If a student isn't very motivated and just wants to "get by" in the class, would this add to their lack of motivation by seeing the "C" example?

When they can see an example of what's expected of them they can be encouraged instead of feeling overwhelmed by the assignment. If they were concerned that they aren't capable, it could help them to realize it is within their capabilites.

showing them before they do a task can remove any stress or nervousness when they do a task or use equipment for the first time
