Hi Melanie,
Students need to have a clear picture as to what is expected of them. Students appreciate being shown examples.

Hi Elias,
I am all for showing examples of work. You still have many students that do a superior job and add their own touch after being shown examples.
Patricia
Hi Erika,
I understand your response fully. I teach a job search course as well, and students love seeing examples of portfolios, resumes, reference sheets, etc. I can automatically see the stress level reduce by sharing these various examples with my students. I always have several students to tell me thanks for sharing.
Patricia
Hi John,
Yes! Students seem a lot more at ease whenever they are ahead of the ball game. The anxiety is very low to none because they feel prepared.
Patricia
Hi Thomas,
You are on point! Students seem to have a very clear picture as to what is expected of them whenver they can see examples. The light bulb comes on, and they understand how to move forward with ease.
Patricia
To give encouragement and motivations.
It will prepare them for the work they will be doing in class; this will also help them get an idea of the work expected of them in their career. They will be able to develop answers to questions they are sure to have in real life situations.
By showing students work they will be doing in upcoming courses they can get a head start on it. The student can begin to assimilate the course work on and apply it whent the time comes on an easier level.
It also gives the students a clear vision of what they should aim for when completing an assignment. I find that many students have stress associated with their final product if they don't have clear expectations. I have used models of what papers, resumes, cover letters, etc. look like upon completion. I also create rubrics to help the students understand exactly how their work will be evaluated. This helps the students to feel more comfortable about what is expected for the final product.
helps them see what to expect and set goals
I have to disagree, I believe you add unnecessary stress to the already exsisting one. You will not hinder their creativity either if, the student is truly committed to excel.
I agree, you can put forth your best effort on the assignment you are about to turn in knowing that the expectations are clear.
Showing students examples of work they will be doing in class will encourage them to do their best work in class. It also shows your students what you will be expecting from them.
Hi Barbara,
I like the idea of holding off first to determine what students come up with on their on, but you must be careful not to wait too long in order to give the students enough time to do the assignment right, if it has been done wrong.
Patricia
Hi Elias,
They sure do! We need to ensure that our students fully understand what is expected of them, and showing examples is definitely a way for students to better understand what is required.
Patricia
Hi Christin,
Students really do tend to get it whenever they can see the "real world" connection. They have the moment, "I get it."
Patricia
They get a better understanding of what is expected of them.
Hi LaTonya,
Students like being able to have a visual so that they know exactly what is required of them. The assignment appears to be clearer by being shown an example.
Patricia
I give a complete course outline with what is expected for assignment completion and when it is due. They are give the full outline so they can pase themselves to complete the work required.
So the get real world examples to relate to.
