I usually begin the class by stating what we are going to do for the day. I then proceed to talk about upcoming assingments and then review material from the previous days lesson.

Hi David,
I really like how you focus on the positive with your students. Clarity is key!

I make sure the syllabus has all of the course requirements listed. The first day of class the students and I go over everything on the syllabus, plus we make folders with the seperate requirements so they can keep track of what they have done and what they still need to focus on. Every time a student successfully finishes a requirement. We will discuss what neds to worked on but focus more on what was successful and what they did well.

I use PowerPoints and demo for the student. I tell what I expect from them. And tell them about pass students and their accomplishment.

Hi Marilyn,
Great system in place to ensure students have clarity as to what is expected of them.

The students also have a sheet that they fill out throughout clinic that have all of their clinic requirements listed and they fill out when they complete them. On the testing form there are rubics and the requirements to pass for each term.
These are over seen by the clinic coordinator to make sure the requirements are being fulled and if any help is needed.

The first day of class the main instructor and all the adjunct instructors review the course information and have an open forum regarding the class. This is a clinical class they take for enrichment. This is more like a work setting. Information is related to what their experiences will be in the work setting. The expectations are reviewed. This is more of a continuation of their other clinic classes. Also, after this unit I suggested a color flier to highlight imporatant information that hasn't been clear in past classes. I have the class manual in clinic for reference and review with the students. If needed, I refer to the manual and we review it together. (I only work one day a week in clinic and am not able to receive e-mail on my home computer. My responses my be a little slow)

Hi Renee,
The syllabus is definitely the tool to provide clarity to students.

To help my students understand the course requirements I give them a syllabus at the beginning of the course, go over the objectives at the beginning of class and always ask for questions about those requirements.

I make sure that my syllabus is detailed, explaining what they will learn from this course, why this course is necessary for them, what kinds of activities we will do in class to enhance their learning, how I grade, and what they shouldn't do in class to practice professionalism such as using phones, talking to others, being disruptive, etc.

I go over the syllabus in details on the first day of each term so my students know what to expect. Most of my students like to know what they're going to learn about the next 6 weeks.

I make a sylabus, Calendars of the course,I go over the objective that we will learn in class. What else can you add to this

Hi Jetonga,
How thorough, you do a fine job of providing clarity to your students. They can not use the excuse, oh I did not know.

There are several methods I use in order to make sure that course requirements are clear. First of all, I provide a course syllabus that basically outlines the assignments for the course, the grading scale, the rationale behind the course, the objectives of the course and a listing of course materials. I also distribute this document on the first day of class and go over the main points of syllabus so that students are fully aware of requirements. For classes I teach online, I also provide an additional document entitled instructor policies that basically outlines discussion and participation requirements, late assignments and make up work. It also explains the importance of academic honesty and the consequences for plagiarism.

I make sure I read the requirements with the students on the first day of class and then ask if there are any questions.

I follow the course syllabus. I also use an outline of what projects they will engage in during the course.

Having a detailed syllabus helps the studenet to know what you are expecting as an instructor.

Hi Sharon,
Great use of the cell phone to provide clarity to your students.

Hi Carmela,
How thorough! You really make things clear to your students. I am sure your students appreciate the clarity due to such tight time constraints.
