I think to be on time and well groomed, and consistant. To come aboit 15 minutes earlier, and have note on the board, sets the tone for the whole class---structure and level of expectation is immediately set; which is a real time saver also. Being prepared, and enthusiastic, and know your subject.
Being authoritative, but must demonstrate fairness---by listening and being open to rethink parameters or deadlines if something comes up that warrents it.
I think a level of being strict is good; as it is taken as caring, even though some express "grief"

I can dress and act as a professional in the classroom. I can come to class with a set plan, follow the agenda and the course syllabus and be prepared to teach. I can also start and end class on time. All of the forementioned things will role model the type of behavior I also expect from my students.

iT IS IMPORTANT TO ESTABLISH AUTHORITY AT THE BEGINNING; OTHERWISE YOU WILL CONSTANTLY BE FIGHTING FOR THE "LEAD". iT ALSO SETS THE STRUCTUCTURE FROM THE TOP DOWN...REGARDING ANY DECISIONS THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED, AND LESS CHALLENGES ALONG THE WAY.
iT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE ON TIME, AND ALSO COME IN WITH NOTES ALREADY ON THE BOARD...THIS SETS THE TEMPO AND LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE THAT IS EXPECTED THROUGHOUT THE CLASS. bEING CONSISTANT, HELPS TO MINIMIZE THE CHALLENGES---REGARDING RULES, ETC. iT HELPS THE STUDENTS TO STAY ON POINT REGARDING STUDYING...WITHOUT WAIVERING IN TIME MANAGEMENT.
WHATEVER YOU DO IS WHAT THE STUDENTS ARE ASPIRING TO BECOME, OR "MODEL". iF YOU SHOW ENTHUSIASM FOR YOUR SUBJECT , IT WILL BE EASIER TO CONVEY THE INFORMATION; AS THEY ARE MORE INTUNED TO YOU, AND WILLING TO TAKE IN WHAT IS BEING TAUGHT. iT IS IMPORTANT TO NOT LET "HECKLERS"; AND THE LIKE, TO TAKE UP CLASS TIME....OTHERWISE YOUR AUTHORITY IS CHALLENGED, AND OBVIUOSLY CLASS TIME IS MISSPENT.

Thanks for the question. The following steps are taken for a positive instructor image:

1. get in the class couple of minutes early and do not leave the class before the last minute unless indicated.
2. Always be prepared for the class.
3. Make a complete lesson plan couple of days before and review it few times.
4. Make a list of different exams with dates and topics and hand over to students along with the syllabus on the first day of the course.
5. Read loudly the syllabus in the class with its goals, objectives and contents and speake clearly about the out come of the course.
6. Always show the attitude that you know the materials well enough.
7. Never say that you do not know the answer.
8. Always care the students according to their needs.
9. Prove that you are committed and dedicated for the students but students have to listen you.
10. Be always impartial in grading.
11. Use reinforcement with care ful coments.
12. Never use improper wording in the class.
13. Never disrespect students and never allow the students to disrespect you infront the class.
14. Always control the class as you are the leader.
15. Grade the test quickly and let the students know their mistake and correct them.

Thanks,
Dr M Hussain

Hi Lisa,
I like your outlook on having a positive instructor image. I can tell you lead by example.
Patricia

The most important one I believe is being professional. This can include dressing and behaving professionally as well as treating each student with respect.

I am by far not the perfect instructor, but if I model the way I want my students to conduct themselves I create a positive instructor image. If I want my students to be on time, I need to be on time. If you want my students to dependable, I must be dependable.

Hi Benetta,
Super! We must certainly lead by example. We are being watched closely by our students.
Patricia

Steps that I can take to create a positive instructor image includes the following: Treating all students fairly to the best of my ability and as the situation allows, maintaining a professional rapport with students at all times while developing a caring relationship, and being prepared and organized at all times when providing instruction.

This past march was my very first classroom teaching experience. During my first meeting with the students I shared some of my experience as a nurse and inform the students that my ultimate goal is to help them succeed so that they can start gaining their nursing experiences. (This I believed gave me good support from the students, and during the semester I followed through with support).

Beginning that first day I consistently addressed each student by their last name, and by the first week I had successfully learned each name. If I saw the student in the hallway I attempted to or addressed them by name, and many were pleasantly surprised by this gesture. Sometimes doing the little things can go a long way in improving one's image.

I know what you mean by positive instuctor image. To me ontime is 15 minutes early and late is on time. I take my role model position serious. That means I abide by the dress code for faculty staff and follow policies and procedures.

I always dress in a professional manner. I am not jut on time but always early and prepared. I never say any thing derogatory about the hospital or the college. If I am asked a question that I am unsure of we stop and research it together and then discuss the answer as a group. I am very concious that I am under a microscope an strive to be a perfect role model

Hi Shonna,
Nicely stated! An impression needs to be made daily in one's profession.
Patricia

Dress, act, and speak professionally.

I agree. The first impression, they say, is the lasting impression, but we have to take it further and treat every day as if it is our first day meeting our students. They need to understand that in their own careers, they cannot just show up to work on the first day properly dressed and then plan to slack the rest of their career. They need to develop pride in themselves and how they present themselves to the word.

Hi Robert,
I like how you make your time quality with your students, and you show them that you geniunely care about them and their success.
Patricia

Hi Marissa,
Yes students will emulate what they see good or bad; hopefully nothing but good to emulate from instructors.
Patricia

I feel you should always no matter what show your class a positive image and a professional image they will do as they see.

I try to always focus on the fact that I have limited time with my students and I must strive to make that time as effective as possible. One technique presented was learning students' names. I make it a point to learn names as quickly as possible (I use assigned seating for the first two or three weeks). Students respond very positively when I'm able to address them by name within the first few classes. That commitment to learning a student's name demonstrates to the student that I'm interested in them as a person.

As I’m demonstrating that I care about them personally, I also strive to be well prepared for each class and conduct myself in a professional way. That demonstrates that I care about the course I'm teaching and that I'm doing my best to be the best teacher I can for the class.

Hi Marshall,
I like your outlook when it comes to professionalism. I can tell you practice what you preach. What a great/positive attitude.
Patricia

By being early I can respond to emergencies and or problems before class starts. I can ensure that I have everything ready for class and know what I am going to be teaching. This ensures that I always look prepared knowledgeable and confidant. When something comes up that I do end up running late the students are more concerned with what the problem was I had rather than class not being ready/setup etc. This allows me to establish a professional knowledgeable reliable image.
