Making sure students are being good citizens in their course and using proper work ethinc is very imporatnt. Set them up to commuincate, to work harder, to grow and expand their minds. Hold them to higher standards right away and they will except nothing less.

Commitment and discipline are key to being successful online learners as well.

Creating a safe online community helps students feel safe  when communicating within said community.

The importance of helping the students build a community of practice and to understand it's importance. Clear, concise, appropriate communication is key. Be sure to distinguish the difference between writing for professional communication and writing to text and social media. Participation and engagement are typically the result of a good relationship. Building the relationship with online students looks different but is very important. Helping students understand the realities of online courses and arming them with knowledge, tools, and support to be successful. The number one skill is communication!

communication is utmost getting thru to your students is a primary concern getting them to interact with the instructor and other students is an excercise in patience to get thru sometimes older students will generally pickit up right away others you have to learn how to reach them and still keep the class rolling along one has to figure out how to reach them

A common theme in this lesson is communication with our students in the classroom and offline. The emaphsis placed communicatiing out expectations to our students about coursework, tests, outcomes, projects, etc. I did like the suggestions about encouraging participation by either a 'passive' or 'aggressive' approach such as private emails and student-led discussions.

real Time communication will help the instructor and students understand materials much better. Procras on the instructors side to respond or make changes hurts everyone

Student participation is necessary for good online communication skills. Non participation can be solved through passive or aggressive methods.

Becaus online courses may involve reading and writing, it is important that I work with student on their reading and writing skills.

As these sessions continue it becomes more clear that miscommunication with students is much different than F2F classroom teaching. Also the development of a community or a Community of Practice (CoP) is also challenging. This certainly underlines what has been previously discussed relative to the communication skills of the instructor.

In this section, the most important or interesting theory I picked up on was the idea of student participation and engagement in the course. If a student does not participate or engage they will not be as successful as the student who does. I always had the theory that accomplishment, development, and growth are not solitary events. It is important to use your community and support to achieve. I will work on improving the online community of my courses to encourage student participation and engagement.

As and Online Instructor Communication needs to be Clear, Professional, and Appropriate (CPA) to the students, student to student, and student to teacher. This forms a Community of Practice (COP) that engages everyone in the Online Classroom process. Reading and Writing are very important for students to know that their learning is up to them and by establishing strong Academic Honesty Policy (AHP) gives students the tools needed with helping everyone to be successful in Online learning.

Communication should be concise, professional, and appropriate and modeling that will help encourage students to do so as well.

Non-Technical Skills ('NTS') are interpersonal skills which include: communication skills; leadership skills; team-work skills; decision-making skills; and situation-awareness skills.

Online learners need basic technical skills to succeed. These include the ability to create new documents, use a word processing program, navigate the Internet, and download software. Most online schools have new student orientation programs.

Participating in an online class and engaging in the learning process is essential but can evolve into more of a Community of Practice (CoP). Helping students be involved in a Community of Practice enhances their learning experience and helps them begin to construct their own learning. Hence, a CoP is based on the theory of constructivism.

Good reading and writing are skills that are essential when taking on line courses.  Good communication skills are necessary for sucess.

I find that some students actually thrive during online discussions. I've had some students both exclusively F2F or only online.  A few students were very shy F2F, even though they were participating actively in online discussions.  During Canvas Conferences, they felt more safe speaking out then in F2F meetings.

The importance of effective communication is even more critical in the on-line learning environment than the F2F environment. Methods to expand, improve, and refine communication between students and instructor and students and students is an important focus of attention for an on-line instructor.

Plagarism is more complicated when instructing online.
