On going training is a part of keeping up to date with statutes rules and regulations that govern what we do. If we don't have continuing education programs, we cannot adhere to new statutes or implement new training techniques for admissions representatives, which is key to being compliant.

Dear Patty,

I am currently learning the various Florida Statutes and Rules and Regulations through your online program. As I build my notebook with the information you have provided, It will become a valuable resource tool in the practice of my position with the college.

I am also in training with the Executive Director and administrative staff to learn to be in compliance with all state policies that regulate the activities of the admissions process.

What is the best way to stay current on the changes and updates to the Florida Statutes and Regulations? Is it through the periodic checking with the Commission for Independent Education or are updates and changes sent out to the institution directly?

Thank you for your review.

Nick

Checking back every month to ensure I am current on all subjects!

The best way to learn and retain about the rules and regulations is to go thrugh them frequently. Best case to print them out so you have them right at hand when you need them.

Kerrie,

We have to take charge of learning and keeping up with any changes. Unfortunately, there is no excuse for not knowing.

Alexandra,
We do have to apply the rules and the application of them starts with actively understanding the hows and whys.

I speak with the director and dean of my specific programs on a regular basis and have them send me paperwork stating regulations pertinent to me. I stay up-to-date to protect myself, my students, and my institution. Self research on Florida's rules is also a great tool.

we have sister schools that we have a monthly admissions confrence call that my self and my director are a part of it allows my self and other admissions directors to go over any new changes or new laws

Hi Patty,

I believe that to understand the rules, statutes and regulations you need to understand how they are used in the admissions position. It is important to check the state website monthly for updates and to utilize role play with other admissions advisors so we can all understand how to correctly represent the information.

Jason ,

Absolutely! And the best way is to follow CIE's website. They have many links available to you.

Patty Aronoff

Veronica,

There are certainly some that have changed! Fees are one segment that is often updated.

Patty Aronoff

I like how this course has links to all the rules, regulations and statutes however, it is important that you continually check for updates and changes. A really easy and convenient way to do this is by accessing CIE's website and clicking on rules and law.

I like to highlight those regulations that change often.

Tamecia,

It takes a proactive approach in order to make sure we are compliant and fully knowledgeable of the rules and regulations that govern our school.

The statues, rules and regulations has been placed in a binder, and is located in my office as the administrators compliance logs. I am always researching and visiting Florida Dept of Education, CIE site for updates and attending workshops seminars, being a member of organizations that hold annual meetings.

Lindsey,
I would suggest that read them along with any school documents that they pertain to. For example, when reading Fair Consumer Practices, trace along the enrollment agreement and catalog. When looking at advertising, look at Standard 11.

Mauricio ,
It is very important to keep asking questions if you are not sure.
