compliance keeps the school accredited.
To ensure that students are being enrolled properly, I have my admmissions staff give complete and truthful information about the education, the school and the career the thier education is preparing them for. I also make sure that my staff is up-to-date on all current rules and regulations.
In my roll as a Exec. Director I need to oversee that the admissions department is using proper terminology when speaking with potential students. Listen to their conversations to make sure they are stating facts and not opinions.
Valerie,
That is an excellent practice! Ultimately, you are responsible for your department and all enrollments. The only way you can do that is to get totally involved.
Patty Aronoff
As a DOA I make sure to sit in on interviews with my reps and their students on a consistent basis.
Sandra,
Excellent point! It is one thing to provide information but it is just as important to ask questions to make sure they are understanding the information we provide. We do want to make sure the student is well aware of all aspects of enrollment.
Patty Aronoff
Shannon,
The students rely on us for accurate information so that they can make the right decision for them. They're dependent upon the depth and breadth of the information we provide.
Patty Aronoff
I think the first step is to provide prospective students the right information, and at the same time to ask the right questions to make sure the student meets all the requirements for enrollment.
It is my goal to always make sure that the student is given correct information to make informed decisions.
It is also my goal to ensure that they are qualified to enter the program that they choose.
If a student has the correct information and is qualified then they are able to be successful in their program of choice.
Hope,
It is a best practice in admissions that the director or lead admissions personnel listen in on conversations with prospective students. The only way you can tell whether or not the proper information is given to the prospective students is to listen.

Great post! I totally agree with your last statement - especially that growth, retention and a good reputation will come if you are doing the right thing. Our mission is also to change the lives of our community in a postive manner.
Participating by listening in on enrollment discussions would help in the determination of how well the enrollment process is being handled. Ongoing training with evaluations are required for all employees that are involved in admissions.
Autumn,
They put their future in our hands. That is a huge responsibility and obligation to their success.
Patty Aronoff
Cheryl,
Student success is very important in the enrollment process. If we do not admit with students success in mind, we risk the loss of the students and their dreams.
Patty Aronoff
Kelly,
Admissions directors constantly follow up and listen in on their staff. We need to do that regularly to make sure that the information is being given correctly.
Patty Aronoff
It is so highly important to put the needs of a "prospective" student before the needs of the institution. As admission's representatives, the person exploring the possibility of going to school puts faith and trust in us to steer them in the right direction and give them accurate, realistic information about the career they are considering entering.
Annual compliance training provides a great foundation to ensure that admissions reps know the rules but integrity, ethics and compassion are the true forces behind following best practices.
As we are a small institution, the application and enrollment process is very diligent so that only the best candidates are picked. In this way they are set up to succeed in their studies and thier placement will reflect on the quality of our institution.
Siting in on interviews regularly and listen to phone calls to assess the information being communicated and the manner it is provided. We have a checklist for the Rep to follow as well as ensure yearly FAPSC Admission training is acquired.
Sonise ,
The time that you spend with the student is invaluable. They will understand the policies and have an opportunity to ask questions.
Patty Aronoff
Keri,
I couldn't agree more. I too meet with every applicant prior to enrollment to ensure their questions are answered and that they feel prepared for the journey they are about to embark on. Additionally, we hold panel interviews for all applicants with a group of faculty and alumni to ensure that they are indeed a good candidate for the program.
Every step of our admissions process is documented and maintained in the students individual record and periodically reviewed for compliance to ensure that we are following and abiding by the rules and regulations.
Great post!! Thank you for sharing.
