From experience, I learned of various colleges through Facebook, MySpace, ect. I think Social Networking sites are an excellent way to market to prospects, as it is a popular form of communication this day in age.

yes my school has a marketing plan that includes promoting the school via the social media.

Yes it is but i don't believe that it is for all avenues. I bleieve that it can open up a "can" of worms when students and faculty are involved in these types of interactions.

As faculty we are discouraged from interacting with students in the social network sites with students/prospective students. i believe this is in the best interest for the institution. I feel that when faculty interacts with students in these forums that it opens the door for potential problems.

I agree that social media is a great way to reach prospective students, but a line should be drawn between professional and personal. At our school we are developing a social media campaign and are going in the direction of fan page. It is a great medium to get information out to the public. We are also looking at getting information out to the public through community websites etc. From a marketing stand point the goal is to get information to the public, not make individual friends.

I would agree with previous postings regarding accessible communication with students. Our marketing plan entails social networking and texting campaigns to stay in front of our students.

I agree completely. We do not use this either and it should be a seperate environment.

My school does not allow the use of social networking to reach out to our students. Yes, it can be beneficial in many ways; however, in many ways it can complicate compliance.

Although I feel social networking sites would be beneficial to use to communicate with prospective students, the institution I work for is not allowing it. It's unfortunate because this is quickly becoming (if not already) the number one way to communicate.

At my school we do not utilize any social networking sites. I would like us to explore them, however I do not feel it is a safe and secure network to allow open dialog about a students personal needs.

Social Networking has expanded my market base. Many of our students use these social networking sites. My school does utilize social networking sites, to provide information to potential students. We even use social networking in our presentation!

Students/ people have become so dependant on social networking cites for information. This can be a gift and a curse for colleges. The gift is that you are able to reach a wider range of students through social networking sites. If you are utilizing social networking sites it helps your college to be up to date in terms of technology. A lot of prospective students look at that as a means of choosing the college they will attend. A curse of the social networking sites is that students become less verbally communicative and they rely on the sites for information; in result they may perceive the information incorrectly. This can bridge a personal gap between students and admissions reps.

Our college uses face book for a lot of its advertising and communicating with students. I think our students enjoy our face book page.

Social networking is an important communication tool in the 21st century.

We like to keep in touch with alumni through FB. Our Career Services Coordinator regularly posts postions for those graduates that are looking for new employment.

Social networking is a very influential tool in marketing. It is not, however, a professional form of media that would be best to communicate educational programs and benefits to students. It is used for primarily personal reasons as opposed to serving a business related purpose. To my knowledge my school does not utilize a marketing plan that focuses on social networking sites.

The social networking sites have been very beneficial for marketing with our school. As this form of marketing reaches a wide array of potential students, and allows current student to communicate their experiences. Our school actually has a facebook and twitter account.

I do not believe this is an effective way to communicate with students. I believe students should be professional when discussing important information such as this. Although social networks have proven to be a successful way to contact a student, I do not feel it is professional.

social networking plays a huge role in marketing not only schools and educational systems but it is used almost in every area of communications around the globe. social media is a perfect way to advertise/market/and communicate to prospective students and just about everybody uses it!

our school uses facebook and we frequently use it in our recruitment process. students are more likely to answer a facebook message than an email and a text message than a phone number. it has proven to be successful for us and will be used in all marketing and advertising attempts.

Our college uses it as a way to inform students of upcoming events and missions within the college, which could be helpful to promote engagement within the college.

Social networking sites have streamlined the means of communication between our school and our students. Our Career Services Dept has a Facebook and Twitter page where they can post new job listings for students, let them know when they are having resume workshops, etc. This is such an effient way to reach out to students because most students are on these sites multiple times a day.
