My school has its own facebook page that we stay connected with our current students as well as offer prospective students to go on and view our site.

We do not as most of our students are teens, not adults.
It is also against company policy for us to be on facebook etc. with any of our students.

I totally agree. It's not professional nor is it a good idea to "friend" current or prospective students on social networking sites. Besides, its always better to keep your work life and personal life separate.

Social Networking sites has allowed more access, and given schools the opportunity to market, their respective institutions. I would like to see what other schools have done in regards to having a marketing plan, to promote its programs and services.

I think that using social media to reach students is great, but I think having a personal page to "friend" them is unprofessional. I know several schools that have a fan page for their school on Facebook or Twitter, and will communicate important information through the fan page, rather than a one-on-one interaction.

I find this to be a more effective, safe, and relevant solution than to just friend someone on your personal page.

Our school does have a marketing plan in place. However, as a representative, i avoid uing social networking sites do to the increased doe regulations. I encourage my students to use the campus groups and sites.

We are slowly transitioning into the use of social networking sites.I feel this will be beneficial to our organization for a number of reasons. It will help with generating referrals, and provide us the ability to reach out to a different market.

I honestly think that the use of Social Networking sites to communicate with prospective students is GENIUS! Everyone that is involved with social networking has at least 4 or 5 friends that they can talk to about school. And if you're really popular, and either attend a school, or work at a school, you have the upper hand in being able to encourage those close to you to reach out to others about furthering their education and enhancing their careers.

I think communicating on your personal accounts "for instance on facebook" is prohibited. The only way this type of network can happen would be through an actual school site that has been approved. The use of technology has really changed though over the past years.

Social networking sites are great with prospective students. I have many of my students on my Facebook and they refer their friends to me that way also. It is a great way to talk with students and make sure that I can help them before actually getting on the phone with them and taking the time to go through everything. (The program, enrollment process, etc.)

The popularity of Social Networking sites has expanded the ways that a student can learn about the school. They may see their friend has started, or notice they graduated! Our school is currently working on the most efficient and effective way to use those types of sites.

Yes we do we add new groups for each class and event

I agree Kenny. Social networking has been largely untapped, and I think my school has been a "little late to the table" with this one. I'm happy to say that we are quickly playing catch-up.

The program that I represent is home-study, so it's important to keep students motivated. I think we will eventually be able to use social networking as a way for students to encourage, support and challenge each other, as well as maintain the personal feeling of connection with the instructors and support personnel.

Social Networking has a huge impact; however, our campus has not gotten to the point of utilizing it to its full capacity.

At my school we cannot be friends with students on social networking sites. I do agree with that as I think work and personal life should be kept separate. We do not use social networking at the school I work for.

I feel this is s huge way in interacting with the students, we have people that their role is to interact with students on these social networking sites.

Social networking has been very beneficial to the university's success. It is a great way to reach out to interested students when it is conveient for them. It is also a great way to promote the university and reach more students.

Social networks are here!! The younger generation uses them every day. As a school especially a technical school it is important to stay up with the newest trends!!

Facebook has been very populkar with our students. Our student services department has created a facebook page to share information about activities and opportunities for community service. We seem to have thousands of "friends" of our campus. I have not seen advertisements or direct marketing of our campus on these sites yet.

Yes, my school has a facebook and twitter account. It has affected communication with students tremendously. They are able to correspond and get information right away.
