We dont but it seems like a area to explore...
Our school is considering Facebook at this time. I just posted a request for info on the "Facebook" thread on this forum.
I feel that social networking has a huge impact on communication of our students as well as our parents. Students look at how many ‘fans’ a company has and sometimes determines whether they are a good company based on that number. They also see how many of their friends ‘like’ that company or go there. Facebook, twitter, ect are a huge marketing tool for any company, school, or other business. When our corporate office posts things on facebook, our students will reply to them, and it makes them feel special and like they are a part of something that not everybody is or can be a part of. It markets, advertises, and helps to maintain the excitement and pride of being a part of our school.
no we do not, i think its a great idea.
I'm a High School admissions rep and work mainly with leads that are seniors in HS. In this day and age the students prefer to be contacted on facebook, via email or texted. They've been raised in a modern technological world and it's just second nature to them. So it's crucial to have social networking in place. If I can't get a HS student on the phone, 9 times out of 10 they'll either email me back on FB or text me back.
The social media sites have created a great way for schools to "stay current" with their students and prospective students. These sites make information and updates readily available to potential students and allows them to communicate with former and current students as well. I think it these sites can play a positive role in the admissions process if used and managed correctly.
Unfortunately, my school does not have a marketing plan that incudes an social netowrking site. I would love for us to participate in these sites. I believe that it would make my job a little easier in the sense that I would have contstant updates, notifications, etc. I'd be able to see where our and the students' needs are and be able to focus my time on providing the feedback or information that is truely needed.
I understand that many negative things may occur as well, but if the site is actively managed and monitored, I believe it would be more beneficial than negative.
Absoultely, social networking has changed the way everyone communicates. However, my company has rules governing how they can be used. I am NOT allowed to "friend" a student or indicate where I am employed.
Social networking is a part of communication with prospective students. One can "like" us on facebook. Our campus president has a twitter account though which she can promote our college. Social networking is just another way to promote our college.
Our corporate offices handle the advertising for our franchises. We are not permitted to do social networking for our local franchise. Our company does use facebook, twitter, blogs, etc. for advertsing and communications with prospective students. The marketing plan for our organization does include social networking sites. It certainly seems to be the way of the future.
Yes.
We have found Facebook to be very effective when trying to communicate with prospective students. Most young people will answer a FB message more quickly than answering the phone.
We have a campus portal for our students.
no however our school has a campus portal that students utilize
I believe that social networking has increased the opportunties for communication and the knowledge of the students.
I was informed that we do.
I agree. I feel each school should open its own facebook page to help communicate with students.
There is a separate position for a 'community relations specialist' that is more likely to be affected by the use of networking sites. I do recognize it is here to stay in our society and finding ways to utilize that medium can only help.
I don't think that we are allowed to socialize in this way with students or potential students. I can understand both sides of this scenario. I think it would be great if I could be friends with potential students on sites such as Facebook, etc., however, it would also be easy to blur the line between student and friend.
At the school were I work, the nursing program has a social site such as the ones we are talking about. There were issues with students bashing another student on this social site and causing a lot of drama at the school between these students. I think this is something that must also be considered. I believe that there are positive and negative affects to using these types of sites to network.
as i am still so new to my school, i am unaware of any social networking sites that we are affiliated with. But i agree that it could be hugely helpful in the advertisement/promotion of any institution. Given the current social staus of the up and coming generation i believe social networks will soon become one of the most effective ways to promote and advertise!
It gets word out there to people who wants to know about what schools and their program.A person who experiences a bad encounter with a school and it's representative will post it on social media.
where i work i do email students but 95% of my contact is via phone. I feel talking w/ people gives them a better feel for what we offer and they can ask questions and get them answered quicker. i always email back in a timely manner but feel talking on phone or face to face is much more personable
