I understand the importance of learning the guidelines for talking prospective students from Ohio, but it would be nice to see a specific State to state relationship or section. I.E. Ohio / Florida or Ohio / California.
I really feel that it is important for agents to know the programs and potential opportunities for the student after graduation. I feel that on a monthly basis the school chairs should offer training on the programs and classes that are offered. I also believe that career services should offer training or at least share what types of positions the students are interviewing for and what positions the students are getting after graduation.
I would love to know more about career services. How they gain employers and how specifically they are assisting students.
I think the training modules do a great job and cover a variety of real world topics that would be implemented on various campuses. I plan to do my own supplemental training and discuss topics with each department on my campus.
The training that i received when i started was tremendous. I have noticed that the new training which involved elearning is not as affective as on site learning. I have noticed this with rotation of new agents that come and go.
I would love to attend job fairs and visit high schools. Observing is one of the most important learning tools.
i wold like to know how all aspects of the school departments and regulations. This way it will amke me a better agent
I think some type of training that assists someone to keep current on the changing dynamics in the admissions field would be helpful. Just taking this course really details for me how important it is to stay current and on top of the information.
I would like to see a tutorial on the importance of the relationship between financial aid nad admissions. It is an integral part of the success at each school that admissions and financial aid be well versed in each others' practices.
It's vital to continue ongoing training to learn each department and always be learning more about your own department. Cross training departments will help everyone in the school learn more about what every does along with keep things compliant.
I believe each agent must spend time in the classroom and with teachers so they may be able to relay the experience to the prospective students. The teacher should be "interviewed" by the agent not just to obtain information regarding the course but to also know the personality of the teacher.
In order gto be an effective agent, I think that an agent should have an understanding of all departments. By having a complete understanding of what is offered and how everything compliments each other, we will be able to answer prospective students questions more effectively. In doing so, they will have a better understanding of what is offered and what is expected of them.
I also think it is important to keep up with industry news, and what resources are available in the community.
I agree with you. Learning the ins and outs of other departments would defiunitely allow me more information that I can provide to my students.
I am a true believer in the training my organization provides. They don't set you up to fail and I am confindent to start every school year on the right track and with all the information. I think my favorite thing I do before school starts is interview the department heads of each area of study. They provide me with personable up-to-date information, plans they have for the school year, and specific information about the department.
The institution I work for requires each admissions representative to sit with a department chair from each program a minimum of once per year to discuss the program in depth or any changes that may have occurred. We are also required to sit with career services. Also, during our weekly admissions training, we will sometimes have a "guest" talk about what they do or any changes that have occurred in their department. The guest could be an instructor or faculty member or even someone from FA or career services.
We utilize all staff meetings to explain and elaborate on every departments focus to assist our students. It truly gives you an insight to everyones support to help students.
The school that I work for offers product development with the department chairs. During that time the department chairs explain what the programs of study are, what the students must know, as well as what I should talk about during the high school vistis. This is a time also where I can ask the hard and soft skills needed for a future student.
I believe it would be very beneficial to get as much information as possible on working with students with special needs. I think this would be a great training subject.
