Accreditation gives our students the comfort in knowing that our curriculum and our instructing staff credentials have been reviewed and approved.
I have found that it gives students and teachers confidence that certain educational standards will be met by our school. It also improves our schools reputation with other staff members and administration such as guidance counselors etc.
Accreditation is a positve, I feel we are put on another level with a credible education. It is all the reason a student would choose our institution over any others.
There are two main reasons our school and our student benefits from being accredited:
1) Reputation. Students benefit from the reputation a school has by being acknowledged that their school was part of a rigour evaluation process. The school benefits from its reputation by enrolling more students otherwise we would be closed for business.
2) Credit transfer opportunities. Schools are much more likely to accept credits from an accredited college although there are no guarantees. We inform all of our prospective students and students that it is up to the receiving institution whether or not they will accept the credits they have...not the institution they received them from.
It helps validate the curriculum of our programs. Being Accredited lets students know that a third party is evaluating our school and programs.
When trying to secure sites for our students to complete their externships, we have found that most labs will only accept students from accredited programs.
My students feel comforted by the fact that we are accredited and adhere to high standards of compliance.
My school has a very high expectation for compliance and quality.
One advantage that we have is that we have been able to work with some traditional colleges in the area to help with transfer of credits to their institution.
Our school has found out, as have the students, that coming from a accredited school many times carries more weight in an interview situation.
Amanda,
It is important to remember that there is no guarantee that students' credits will transfer to another school and you may not tell students there is.

Here's what I submitted earlier
-----------
Students seeking to pursue careers in academia predominantly choose regionally accredited institutions therefore information on accreditation is very crucial in the enrollment decision process.
On the other hand nationally accredited institutions have to meet, among other requirements, a certain minimum employment/graduation ratio every year. This requirement is particularly beneficial to students as the institution works hard to help them find jobs. My school falls in this category.

Students attend my institution because they are looking for small classes and a great learning environment. They love that they can get the hands on training, and continue their education at a 4 year institution with no fear of credits not being accepted.
Our graduates are in a very specialized field, and can't work unless they are licensed or certified. This, in addition to our accreditation, adds to the level of acceptance of our grads, and makes placement easier.
Our students have comfort in knowing when they take a résumé into an employer they don't have to second guess the quality of education our students receive. We are nationally accredited and to potential employers that is important.
Benefits of Accredidation: I believe there are two main benefits to students. First one is that they know the quality of education is at a good standard and second is that it enables them to apply and see what type of itle IV funds they qualify for.
When students know that our school is accredited, it gives them the comfort in knowing that their education is credible and will become competitive to employers after graduation.
eligibility for transfer of credits. Some employers require degrees to be earned through accredited post secondary institutions
Our students are often employed by company's that are looking for graduates from accredited schools.
