The generation style that resonates most with me is Gen X. I am very independent and learned from my family. I suppose it was my upbringing that has made me who I am today.

It's crazy how technology can be both help and a hinder at times. How do you you adjust your approach with students or co-workers from a different generation Tim?

Dr. Jean Norris

I resonate most with Generation Xers because I am one! I think it is much easier to communicate and get a long with someone who comes from your same type of background and generation style. I appreciate boomers hard work ethic and the traditionalists old-fashioned ways of doing things. Somehow life seemed more simple and less complicated back then. We have a lot more technology that is supposed to help us in our lives today, but it almost seems to make it more hectic!

Wow! Having all those generations around you gives you the opportunity to practice your communication with each. You also bring up a terrific point, we don't always have to like the different generational behaviors to understand them or to be able to communicate with that generation. Awareness is the first step and then modifying our style to relate to the other generation is next. Thank you Wilhelmina.

Congratulations! Technology is moving so fast that keeping up can be tricky. What do you find the best part of the changing technology?

I am of the old school but have been able to keep up with todays technology pretty well.

Being the mother of 6, grandmother of 26 and greatgrandmother of 3 I can interact with all generations.I learned to understand their behaviors, even though they may not always be to my liking.

My generational style student that we face every single day is baby Boomer We are so open to try other styles but we look forward to focus on those that give us a combo style to be much better in our daily work to improve our quality of being much better every day. I was a Baby boomer when I saw myself looking for a career.

I believe my generational Style is a cross between Traditionalist and Baby Boomer. I think it came to be because of the influence of my parents and grandparents. They instilled their beliefs in me and it became a part of who I am as a person.

gen-x fits me best. growing up i watched how my parents did it and took my cues from them. figured out what i liked and what i didnt and went from there

Interesting! Would you say that the traits from one or two of the styles is/are more dominant of another?

I'm a mix of a couple of these, traditional, gen-x, and baby boomer. I like as much info as possible. From books, the internet, and hands on.

It seems that your children are providing an influence on your style. How do you think this benefits you in the work place?

My generational style has a very heavy influence of baby boomers it totally fits the birth year. I also an influ of generation X. I belive that the influx of x has been greatly contributed to the fact that i have been working with that partlicilar group for the best few decades and a I have 2 children from that generation and 2 more children from the millennial style.

Yes indeed...it is interesting to stop for a bit and examine how we operate and consider why our styles are the way they are. It is eye opening!

Geoffrey,
Isn't it interesting how our styles are a function of our environment?

Dr. Jean Norris

My generational style is Baby Boomer all the way! I scored a 14, one point above Traditionalist! I think your points that describe connecting with Boomers is spot on, at least fo me. I don't care to be communitacated with via controlling language and body language does seem important to me. Details are important and I do like options. Being raised with four siblings by parents of the Traditionalist generation and their parents, all from the generation before, being a child in the 1960's, I believe have all contributed to my generational style.

Erica,
You sound like a busy person. How does the awareness of your generational style help you in your work?

Dr. Jean Norris

I suppose a cross between generation X and Millenials. Mostly generation X because of my ethinicity background and influence from my parents. As a Brazilian woman I feel I can relate with the sandwich generation because we trully take care of our parents and children. In my culture it is rare to find a family that will place their parents in nursing homes. The influence of Millenials comes from the years of which I grew up in, and the media influences. I believe in team work and positive reinforcements.

Joseph, interesting point. Based on this, you have the great ability to connect with more generation types.
