In addition to leaving my number twice, I also like to repeat my name and where I'm calling from. Since I mention it at the very beginning before (hopefully) getting them hooked, I like to make sure that they don't have to go back for that information. It's important to get rid of even the easiest obstacles.

Leaving a message you have information for them is a great way to get a call back. What kind of information do you usually have, Portia?
Dr. Jean Norris

just by letting them know that you have information about something they inquired about.

Maria,
Very good! Get them excited, and then deliver the excitement!
Dr. Jean Norris

sound excited, tell them you have exciting information to share with them, dont give them all the information on the voicemail

Stephanie ,
So true! Thank you for sharing in the forum!

Dr. Jean Norris

absolutely feel free to call me at 863-646-1400. Going back to school to make a dream of becoming a Medical Assistant is exciting news that is what I meant, which is awesome.

Stephanie ,
I want to call you back! Everyone likes exciting news. However, do you deliver on this promise of exciting news?

Dr. Jean Norris

Maria,
These are all excellent ways to intrigue students. Is there something specific you say on the phone to invite them?

Dr. Jean Norris

call me right away I have some exciting information I would like to share with you and I am so excited to tell you about it.

INVITE THEM IN TO TAKE A TOUR OF YOUR CAMPUS, TO VISIT THE LABS, MEET WITH YOUR INSTRUCTORS

Lori,
That is great to hear your excitement inspired someone else! Thank you for sharing this in the forum!

I am glad you said slow down. By nature I am a very fast paced person and I have to make sure I slow down on calls because I tend to speak fast at times.

I find that sounding very happy and excited when leaving a message helps. I left a message for a prospective student to call back and I said I had "exciting news" to share with him. It turned out that it was a wrong # but a person called me back concerned that the person I was leaving the message for was missing out on something.

Connie,
That is great advice! Thank you for sharing.

I get potential students to return my call(s) by informing them that there are only a few slots available and that other students have interviewed and are in the decision making process. This lets them know that other people find the program valuable. Sometimes a student needs to realize that the program that they want to take may not be available to them without swift action on their part.

I like to use humor and a friendly out going voice. Most people appreciate a down to earth person and by portraying that in your voice you can set a person at ease.

LeAnn,
Wow! This is a new one- thanks for sharing. How's it working for you and your students?

Sometimes we use our fafsa leads as a way to make contact. We say " Hey Sharon, we saw that you did a fafsa application with our school code. I imagine you would like to know your financial aid amount for our program, give me a call back if you would like to know how much you would get in federal aid if you came to our school"

Great approach! Thank you for sharing.
