Patricia,
This sounds like a compelling place to go to school and to work.
Jeffrey Schillinger
The school I work for is full of Intelligent Hearts. So many people here care so much about their jobs. It does't matter if they came with tons of skills. They learn those easily because they want to help and they love what they do.
How would you describe your school's culture? Is it made up of "Intelligent Hearts?" What is your perception of an "Intelligent Heart"?
My school has an amazing culture. I have worked for several different schools and there are ones that I work for because I have to and there are ones I work for that I want to. This particular school that I am referring to is one that I work for because I want to. They truly believe in “every student every day.†In my opinion, my school is full of “Intelligent Hearts.†They do what they do for one reason to help the student’s succeed in school and after graduation.
My perception of an “Intelligent Heart†is a person that is a subject matter expert, a person that fulfills their role as an instructor, and does whatever they can to reach their students. Every student learns in different ways. Every student will bring their experiences with them to class, both positive and negative. Every student is in school to change their life. As instructors, we can assist our students in finding how they learn best, utilize their personal experiences within their program of study, and finally show them that they can succeed and they have the power to change their life.
I believe my school actively promotes positive attitudes in all departments. We as instructors are encouraged to work closely with admission reps, the registrar and administration to meet student needs, as each holds a separate piece of the puzzle. For instance an admission rep has had significant contact with students before they ever walk into my classroom and the nature of that contact is often of a more personal nature.
The Intelligent Hart is alive and in a constant state of growth and development here at LCB. To be a person that always puts others first in life and only seek to encourage the positive is my understanding of Intelligent Heart.
It is hard for todays modern business's to create a culture of intelligent heart. In some definitions of business there is no place for any emotional intelligence, soley business intelligence. what is humorous is that some businesses thrive when they apply a combination of both. Any college, in order to have retention must apply a well structured combination of both. I agree it is an important dynamic to bring to a learning facility however cannot be abused and allowed to soley be the basis for making decisions.
The school I work for is all about the intelligent heart. they try to show the students that they care in every department, so that all the students possible have a good feeling. yes, there are still students that want to see the worst, but those are also the students that have probably never had a positive role model in their lives. We still try to seperate the negative students and surround them with the positive students, it seems to work.
I would describe my school's culture as being made up of Intelligent hearts. I say this with certainty due to the schools support system for the students. Not only are instructors involved, but the 'whole' campus is right behind the student's education. The school provides many programs, including a CARE program for the student to call in and get advisement, mentoring programs for their career goals, etc. Monthly meetings include the majority of the staff, and this includes admissions, career services, instructors and administration discussing the current needs of the students and achieving the bulls eye for the organization.
My perception of an Intelligent heart has affected me personally, due to the effect that I have on my learners. For example, mentoring, and motivating the students is just the start, having our learners as customers is part of the journey and with the end goal being a happy learner, who is motivated, successful and all involved in education, working as a team. Intelligent hearts also encompasses knowing our students to be successful learners.
Cheers

We also have a tutor program. We have an open door policy, so a student can go to anyone from the instructors or to any of the support staff for help. If that staff cannot help them, they will direct the student to the correct person.
Blossie,
What are some of the ways your institution demonstrates the intelligent hearts?
Jeffrey Schillinger
My institution is made up of Intelligent Hearts.
Having an intelligent heart is important for the maximum success of any institution. An institution with an intelligent heart implies on in which all employees and departments work towards the common good of the institution as it works to master a common goal. We's are more important than I's.
How would you describe your school's culture? Is it made up of "Intelligent Hearts?" What is your perception of an "Intelligent Heart"?
Currently, I would describe the culture as “full of potential and full of intelligent heartsâ€!
The climate unfortunately is more “tenseâ€.
We will need to balance these (culture v. climate), align them, actually – if we are to realize that potential and bring forth a more positive climate, which can occur with renewed levels of trust, focus on consistency, and a passion for impression management. And it will take a group of “intelligent hearts†at the helm, in command central, so to speak – in order to do that.
My perception of an ‘intelligent heart’ is an individual who can rise above circumstances, someone who can, even in the midst of apocalyptic events, take note, take care, and take positive action. An intelligent heart is someone who can surround herself with people who might have a higher IQ/EQ than her own. Intelligent hearts can metaphorically punch through the surface chaos and emerge into the real issue on the other side. A small, passionate army of these folks can help our institution thrive, instead of just survive.
Richard,
Campus Presidents set the tone for the school. It is nice to see that yours "gets it."
Jeffrey Schillinger
it starts with our president, always walking the hallways, smiling at everybody, saying hello to everybody.it makes both sudents and staff feel empowered to do more and do better.
It Is made up of intelligent hearts!
we are very caring of are students.
I notice that at my school it is really a team effort to motivate and keep everyone on track. If I have a concern about a student my supervisor will reach our to them. I will also get an admissions rep to follow up and see how they are doing. Finally, our ADOE is always there with a helping hand to reach students.
Our culture is amazing. It is what makes it such a great place to work. All the staff (instructors, admin and support) work together to make sure the job is done. We are told from day 1 that if we cannot come to work happy every day and enjoy our job, then we will not belong; because everyone else here does.
You can feel the positive energy in the air when you walk our halls. It is contagious and spreads to our student population. It is truly a happy place. A great learning environment.
Jimmy,
This sounds like a great place to work.
Jeffrey Schillinger
Our school culture is to work together for the success of the student. We try to get all departments involved in our student's journey and facilities when needed. Our campus is made up of intelligent hearts and our staff truly cares about the success of our students and we believe that we can change the world one student at a time. Our instructors thrive on giving back to the student's career and being successful after graduation.
