Causes of stress at the work place

Just write the concerns that you have about work on a note pad so you can at least free it from your thoughts. As I warm up the car I look to free myself of work so before I leave the driveway my thoughts are on my personal thoughts and things that I need to accomplish on the way home.

Respect

It would be hard to move forward without respect within the classroom

Root causes for student behaviors

The fundamental root cause for a students behavior can be deeply rooted to circumstances from their childhood.

Reinventing your approach to challenging students.

As the dynamic of each class will be different so will the reponses of the students.

Course and Participation requirements for students

In order to be effective and maintain interest and dialogue, both participation and course content are equally important.

It's very important to be professional and follow the standard procedure when doing your job, regardless the type of professional field. As an Instructor, it is very important to be professional in a class and set a standard that students follows to acquire knowledge.

Maintaining professional image

Maintaining professional image will be a role model for student and will set the tone.Class management will be easier and smooth.

Being a Friend

If the student needs someone to talk to, you can but there is a time and a place.

Managing angry student

Managing angry student by listening and trying to understand why the student is angry.

capturing student attention

capturing student attention by engaging in group discussion, presentation with interesting examples

unpreparaed

before a student can take a quiz, they must have completed there online training courses. there are always several students that show up on the day of the quiz without completing them. because the student is not eligible to take the quiz, I have them stand at the back of the room with me while I have the rest of the class take the quiz. hopefully, giving them time to think about what they are missing out on, and that there classmates are moving forward with the class without them.

small groups

I like the idea of smaller groups. Some of my classes are large and this will help manage them.

Room for Error

In my classes I open the floor for my students to see, know and understand that I am not perfect. I may not pronounce every word correctly or may have spoken incorrectly. I allow my students to correct me, or even pronounce the word that I may have issues with. I find that this keeps their minds on the topics and engaged in helping me with the lecture. As we all know we have one or two students in the class, "who feels" they know it all, so I call on them to help assist. At the same time, I show the students who may be weak in speaking skills, or reading skills that its okay to be shy, or not perfect, but you have to do your best and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Student who allows another student to cheat off of them

I had two students that became friends. Both worked besides going to school. I gave a weekend homework assignment to the class due on Monday. When I collected the homework and was reading it to grade it I found that I had read that exact essay answer earlier. So i looked thru the pile of papers and i found it was the two girls mentioned above. I put them side by side and went word for word and found that there was a 3 word difference in the entire assignment. Upon conclusion of the class i asked the two girls to meet with me tomorrow before class. I set a time and they agreed. My gut feeling was to give them both zeros, speak to them on the reason cheating is not the way to go but I wanted to discuss this with the Dean. He said I was right. Also this event now prevented either of the girls from becoming a Student Ambassador. They never cheated again.

Managing Student Behavior

During the first day and also first week of class, I like to place them in groups and see who is willing to step up to be captain or who hides. This allows me and the fellow classmates to see who can lead the team and who is shy, or just plain lazy.

Challenging Students

When I am dealing with a student who is challenging either me as an instructor or the information given, I give them the assignment to prove me wrong or help me to see their point of view. When giving their opinion/point of view it can not be just "hear say" they must provide the research along with their claim or the must remain quiet.

mind set

At times it just takes a shift in focus to cope with stress

teaching styles

Is it possible to have all of the mentioned learning styles?

discipline

How is a student handled when he tries to correct a teacher?

First day of class

Last week I taught my very first ever class. I have a pretty large class 31 students and my original plan was to go over course documents with a Q & A period and then move right into course content. This plan was a little side tracked by missing textbooks for the entire class and I lost nearly an hour of lecture time. I tried to remain positive and let my students know that by being flexible and creative we can as a collective group still get everything accomplished. That almost happened but I still ended up with an entire chapter that did not get lectured on. I adjusted my course content schedule to the benefit of the students in this case but am now worried that they will always expect adjustments that give them more time to complete a task and not require some degree of self study. Should I have done this differently?
