Ask a question from your peers to help you in your professional work. Seek different points of view on a topic that interests you. Start a thought-provoking conversation about a hot, current topic. Encourage your peers to join you in the discussion, and feel free to facilitate the discussion. As a community of educators, all members of the Career Ed Lounge are empowered to act as a discussion facilitator to help us all learn from each other.

Student behavior

In career colleges student behavior is somewhat of an ongoing issue. Behavior is learned throughout life. We as educators have to find a positive way to transform our students by teaching them softskills..

Why do students drop out of school?

Students drop out of school for multiple reasons. The #1 reason is a fear of success.

Properly managing the classroom enviornment

The most challenging component in proprietary colleges is being able to engage the students. As educators we have to find a happy medium which incorporates a conducive learning enviornment for our students. Module 1 talks about being able to bring balance between being a subject matter expert and a instructional delivery expert. Our students need to know and understand fully the course content and how it relates to the career path. Once they see the importance classroom control is easier.

Books

Another common mistake that I have heard is for the instructor to tell the call that “we will not be using the assigned text.” This is usually done after the students have invested substantial capital in obtaining the book. This de-motivates students almost as much as telling students that one has never taught the course before.

signs of stress

We all deal with stress, family, friends, work, and commute.Realizing that you are stressed out is another problem. When you become short tempered, not feeling well, patience level is down, tired, irritable all signs. Look for the signs.and try to resolve them

Life is too short for stress

We all have stress, how we deal with it is what this is all about. I agree with these methods as I have used many to help in my reduction of stress. I also have the type of personality that I let alot of stress roll off my back, that in which we can deal with and control you must face. That in which we have little to no control we still have to face but need to as stated in our lesson "prioritize" where they belong in our life or even if they belong in our life. The point being if YOU don't take charge of your life, reduce your stress, it will hurt in the long run. So take charge of you life, it's too short.

Stress Free?

Some people are not able to have a strees free life.

Stress

I beleive that anyone who really takes pride in what they do or how they are perceived fills stressed out. Some people can manage there stress. I can not!

Grading

The best way to save time while grading a quiz is to spend a little extra time in the development of the quiz. Long answers take to much time to read and usually cause the students to stress out.

Time Management and Stress

I find that when I manage my time the way I think it should be, it tends to cause stress to the people around me in and out of the class.

dealing with others

Dealing with others, your stress and thier stress will some times become one big stress issue.

Stress

We stress about all kinds of stuff, do we really need to stress?

grading

We have a EGB (Electronic Grade Book)it helps out a lot. Makes Our life easier, more time to help the students.

Time

I would like a 28 hour day!!

Reduce your stress.

We as instructors need to reduce our stress by letting some things just roll off our back. Don't let the little things make you crazy. Remember there are some things we can control and some we can't. For those that we can't control don't take it to heart so much, find a way to make it work the best you can and be ok with that. If we put too much on our self we will go crazy and loose contol of that which is in our control. Our thoughts, knowledge, patience and experiences. We teach, our students learn, so don't sweat the small stuff, be flexable.

Electronic Grade Books

We have been using EGB's (Electronic grades books) for some time now, and I can not give it enough credit for helping with the grading process. We also have lots of other items included in our grade book that helps us day to day. I would only wish all could bennifit from this resource. I have not seen nor tried the online test sites, for not only making test's but electronic test's and grading. I'm excited toi look at these sites and see if they would fit in to our program.

Personal problems in the classroom.

I think it is a big mistake to talk about personal problems with the class, it is just not appropriate or professional.

Student anger

I have found that when you ask a student about there anger, most times it has nothing to do with you or your institution.

First day

First day you can get a feel for you students the ones that are late, the condtion of there books from the last class, who sits int he back of the class. When set the pace for the class it will go very well for you.

Dealing with students in today times

The student that you may see today having pressure from all sides of life to do well and for you to help is a great challenge.
