Hi Charles:
I like to do frequent "chats" and offer encouragement and support along with the grading status.

Regards, Barry

Students will feel engaged in the class and want to participate more

They need to know if their edication is worth it.

Hi Creighton:
I like your tie-in to self accountability. When students learn they should be able to apply it, and the sooner the better. So by giving frequent and expeditious feedback students are able to lern of their mistakes, make adjustments in their thing, and there is still time for correction, which will help their grade as well.

Regards, Barry

Hi Richard:
Frequent sharing status, the more often the better, gives students usefulful information about how to improve, but also enough time to make needed corrections.

It helps to motivate the student as the course progresses, instead of "surprising" them when it is too late to do something about it. It also helps me talk to a given student about how to improve their position, and more importantly, lets me occasionally alleviate undo pressure some students put on themselves when they are performing perfectly well.

The stdents will respond better if they know how they are doing in class. With no feedback they will become disinterested and also will believe you, as the instructor don't care about how they are doing. I like to have little meetings with my students several times during the semester, often just a few minutes, to discuss their grade so far in the course, how they think they are doing. A student who maybe isn't doing that well may take longer as we discuss what problems they are having and how they might improve their grade.

It is very important to keep the student informed of their progression so the student will know where they are at all times

Knowledge is power, knowledge is growth
The more the student knows where they stand on the course at any given time, allows them to re-align their resources where needed.
Much like instructor self assessment- it gives immediate feedback as to the strengths they can rely on (practical tests), or develop skills in their weaker areas (written tests).
This increases thier need for self accountability.

Hi Gordon:
Frequent and expeditious sharing of status will be appreciated by students, allow you to cement the correct information, and give students more time to correct their grades.

Hi Michele:
Connecting with your students this way builds relationships and shows that you care.

I like doing this for many reasons. First of all if they are doing well, some positive reassurance goes a long way. If they are struggling its a good opportunity to suggest new learning styles or study buddies or tutoring. Its the instructor time to get to know how the student learns so that he or she can suggest helpful ideas for that student.

It is always good not to keep the students waiting to find out their status in the class. We use a grading machine which gives the student their grade on any test right away. then I will tell them I will figure out their course average a little later.

Students need to know where they stand with their courses in an ongoing basis to help them if needed and so that there is no surpirses on final examinations.

It is important to keep student informed of their progress quickly after each assignment, so that they know where they need to improve and don't keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I have taken my Master's and Doctorate Courses during these degrees, I found the instructors did not provide feedback on any of the work until the end of the course!

Feedback is what the students are looking for. Grade assignments and tests and return promptly

Continious feedback is what the studets are looking for. Grade assignments and tests and return promply.

This keeps them up to date and also helps them to see if they are struggling and on the verge of failing. If they are in danger of failing, it may give them incentive to catch up in time.

The more students know about their status the better they will try to either raise a not so well grade or to keep the grade they have. I have had students that I have had to communicate with constantly but they ended up doing very well at the end of the module.

This is so important! Here at the Miramar campus there is never enough time to do this. So, I have learned to restructure things to have more time.
