What is the goal of educating students?

The goal to educating students is to supply them with the information and proper skills for their career choice. I want my students ready to enter their career field with the necessary information to succeed.

Hi Joseph:
Good sentiments. My peice is preparing them academically and with the skills they need, along with the knowledge about the workplace expectations and settings. Together, students should be prepared well for graduate-workers.

Regards, Barry

Hi Karen:
Goals for education are many. One part is getting them ready academically and with the skills the'll need. Another aspect is the wisdom, experience, and training the teacher has obtained. Together, these give the student a well rounded readiness for their chosen field.

Hi Laura:
My take on goals is to get them job ready. That consists of meeting the academic and skills portion, then, my training and education combined contributes to the final product of an "educated student".

Hi Diedra:
For me, the academic and skill requiremnets are one thing. My education, training, and experience add to that. Together, the goal of being job ready is achieved (that's the goal).

Hi Harriet:
For me, giving the required knowledge as defined in the course outline, and sharing my experiences to complement the course material is one of the goals of educating. Tying these into practical skills that can assist the student land and keep a good job are part of that as well.

The goal of educating students is to pass on both general knowledge as well as sharing personal experiences that hopefully keep students from making same mistakes. By taking professionals out of the field and putting them in classrooms, students get the best of both worlds. The ultimate goal is to graduate students who really grasp what their jobs will be, not just having text book learning but hands on learning. That's what we try to provide them with and I think it's so much better this way.

The goal to educate students to me is that you teach them all the knowledge, and life skills that you know will help them.

There are various goals: societal, organizational, and individual. Each one is important. A democratic society needs educated people to sustain itself. An organization needs people with knowledge-skills and people-skills. An individual can want knowledge for self-satisfaction or socio-economic improvement.

the goal in educating students is to give the valuable information for them to suceed in knowledge and skills.

To enable them to be prepared to translate the knowledge and skills they've gained into the workplace.

Hi Diane:
Yeah, the problem solving/critical thinking thing is very important for succesful students and workers.

For me, I rely on student learning objectives, course objectives, my knowledge of the real world work expectations, and trying to individualize my instruction to reach each student on their level, to bring them closer to my level.

Hi Anthony:
You describe the challenges most students who are destined for the work setting experience. Getting the necessary knowledge is part of the equation. Application to the work setting is another part. Experience will tie both together.

Regards, Barry

My goal for my students is to train them so that every task they do when they enter the real world of working isn't so hard. With the knowledge and skills that they have obtained that any situation that comes their way they will be able to problem solve. When they are out their working they should have many AHA moments from all the training and education they have received to help keep them motivated for years.

To make them more educated

To help them apply newly gained knowledge to a variety of areas.

The goal is to help the students learn and grow while gaining confidence in their abilities.

I think, for me, the goal of educating students has two features. The first is the career feature, or training that helps one get and keep a position leading to a career. The second side of educating students, and the one I find most important, is helping them think for themselves critcally about where they are and how they can navigate toward success.

Educating students in a specific segment of knowledge (a specific course) to me means bringing them to the point of subject mastery so that they can go on to the next step with ease and confidence. In each course I teach, I want to ensure the student does not struggle at the next level and he/she will not 'if' our combined efforts are aimed at mastering the set objectives. I agree with previous posters that students are the forerunners of new discovery and the future, but I try to only focus on my little piece of that which is the current course I am priviledged to be guiding them through ;)

Hi Michele:
Giving our life and work experience along with structured lessons using contemporary resources will open the door to qualified students - if they are rightly motivated.
