By the example of the heavenly scene, I think that as a teacher, my goal in educating students lies not only on transferring to them the best expertise I may impart for them to learn but also to educate them to become the solid foundation of a generation of better citizens of the only planet there is.
This question lets me remember an old fable about a scene in heaven in which a heavenly staff reviewed how people on queue lived their life on earth. As each one got a thumbs up to enter the kingdom of heaven, the heavenly staff noticed that the elderly man with silver hair and wrinkled face at the back of the line beamed with joy to see those who enter the door but cringe with sorrow to see some of those people be led away from the door. When it was time for the elderly man to approach the heavenly staff, the latter asked the man, "Did you know those people before you?" And the man replied, "They were my students."
The goal of educating students is to give them the tools to be successful in a career so they can live a comfortable life.

To fully understand and learn the what they came to school to learn
A goal of educating students would be for them to realize their career potential, and more. They will have accumulated their educational background as well as their social skills, having been through the college program. Hopefully, they will have also learned something more about themselves along the way and have a better understanding of who they really are in this world.

I think that it is to deliver the knowledge and skills the student needs in a way they will understand and retain. I try not to over load them but give them enough to think about before the next class.
