In our hands-on lab we focus on teaching techniques because once a student learns the technique they can apply it to any situation they encounter in the career field, even if it is one they have never experienced before. This is how I understand the definition of "learning" discussed in the module. It is also very self-empowering for the students thereby increasing student motivation and retention.

My goal for educating students is to keep myself excited about the material in order to keep them excited about the material. I need to be continually keeping myself updated with things going on in the profession. Observe them and know where their weaknesses are and do my best to mentor them and make them stronger in those areas. I want the student to leave the program feeling totally confident in book based knowledge and clinical knowledge.

Hi Nancy:
Another thing we can say is to help give our students the skills they need to make the most effective decisions they can in their lives.

The goal is to help them get to were we are in the technicial feild

The goal of educating my students, it to place a qualified employee into the work force that the employer will know that is safe, qualified, and caring. I want the students to enjoy their field, and not see it as a day to day job, they need to be caring for patients, and be rewarded by being good at their profession.

help them learn

Hi Allina:
I like how you describe the abilty to "think outside the box". Perfect! To me, that means helping our students become more efficient decision makers.

Hi Ruth:
To paraphrase what you wrote, we strive to help our students gain the ability to make more effective decisions at school and in life.

I believe that the goal of educating students is to impart important knowledge to them which will help them achieve their career goals and help them feel valuable in that effort.

Goal of educating students:
1. Get them out of their comfort zone
2. Help them to build their self esteem
3. Give them experiences where they work with others
4. Help them discover ways to be independent
5. Plans lessons where students experience success
6. Teach them critical thinking skills
7. Encourage them to set measurable goals

What is the goal of educating students? Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson said, and I quote “And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”. When in the classroom we as educators see that light go on in the student’s eyes, we feel that we have accomplished what we have chosen to do.

To me educating students has the goal of imparting a knowledge base that they can draw upon and to apply to diffrent situations using a critical thinking process. They have to have a this base first in order to appropriately and effectively solve problems etc.

Hi Warren:
That's a strong point. Another thing we might suggest is we try to help our students become the most effective decision makers in life.

Hi Faith:
Also, an overall goal might be to suggest we are helping our students become better decision makers, both in school and in their lives.

Hi Dennis:
Powerful! To paraphrase, we strive to help our students become more effective decision makers in school and in life.

For me, the goal of educating students requires me to convey the information they will need to be successful in thier chosen field. If I am facilitating a course in management, I may have students from the medical technology prgram, the information systems technology program, and the medical assisting program. I must help these students determine how they will apply course concepts to thier respective fields. I can't deliver the course in a "one-size fits all" style.

Hi Kathy:
That's awesome! Snd certainly, your enthusiasm will translate positively to your learning environment.

Hi Simone,

True. I was a student over three years ago, and now working side by side with my former instructor. I know the feeling.

I'm a nursing instructor. I feel a sense of obligation to the public to not simply produce warm bodies to alleviate the nursing shortage but to produce caring individuals with a solid knowledge base and good critical thinking skills. I always keep in mind that one day one of my students might be caring for me as a nurse...and I don't want to be frightened by that scenario!

Hi Gail:
Informal discussion can be a great way to help students understand the topic at hand, especially topics that are technical. Something else that's really helpful is to tie-in these kinds of discussions to everyday scenarios whenever you can.
