The learnign objectives allow a student build expectations for the days class. I often state the objectives at the begining of the class and end the class reviewing them to make sure everyone understands what was presented.
Your lesson plan is your script or outline for the course. It is your roadmap to success. If you are not prepared for your class you will be lwetting your students down.

We must write down clear and defined objectives for our students entering the industry that we are training them for. Without our understanding of our own learning objectives we are just repeating another persons information (which the students can see and hear) and setting our students up for failure!

I agree. In addition, if a proper plan is not in place, the instructor can also get confused (with the direction of the course) and create a perception (amongst the students)of being "unprepared".

this is very important in that proper lesson planning is the key to a successful learning environment. There has to be a plan, then implementation, and follow through. If not, students get confused about what they are supposed to know.

This is a great observation. In fact, I add the appropriate, learning objective to the guidelines of my course assignments. This way, students are aware of how the assignment connects with the ultimate goals of the class.

some students need to know exactly what is planned for the class, this way they can read ahead and be prepared for the next lesson.
In addition to the students being able to assess their retention of information in the present subject matter, they can also use review the objectives of previos subjets to gauge their ability to retain information learned previously. They can evaluate whether or not they really have mastered a particular skill set.
When state or national standards change, the learning objectives of your course material need to change to reflect the new standards and enable students to meet them.

This is a great observation. Many students begin the class with a "what's in it for me" attitude and they look to the learning objectives to define the importance of the course. As a General Education instructor, it is important that I discuss how the learning objectives of my course will assist the student with their career goals and future aspirations.

In addition, learning objectives serve as qualitative assessments for the students in class. If a student can review the learning objectives (after the end of the class)and confidently feels that they have acquired the skills, then they can feel a true sense of learning.

Leaning Objectives should be constructed to insure that the course content is "tailored" to the requirements of the students. How can this course aid the students in there career objectives. It may have to modified in future years.
Without learning objectives you have no way of keeping the course consistent from one semester to another. I find learning objectives to be needed.
