Knowing the learning styles of my students has been helping me on structural my classes. A well structured class are more likely to lead into a good learning outcome.
I try to have students bring to the class homeworks in a format convient to their learning stlyes ex. power points, written, or discussion.
Do you have a recommended online activity that will assess learning styles?
Hi Joan, Thanks for your post to the forum. That's a good point - doing the same things over and over is almost always "boring" and we are not engaged when we are bored! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

When I am aware of the differing learning styles, I can vary teaching methods to accommodate the varying styles. A variety of teaching methods helps me to be more effective in a couple of ways. First, I believe it adds interest to the class - so it's not "boring." Second, I can meet more of my students' learning needs and thus increase their level of success in the class.

Students learn more when material is presented in a way that addresses their style of learning. When an instructor takes the time to conduct an inventory of the students' learning styles and prepare lessons to address those on a regular basis, he is addressing the needs of all students.
Knowing the learning style of my students is crucial. I survey my students on the first day of class to get an idea of class preference and adjust my teaching strategy accordingly.
Hi Richard, Thanks for your post to the forum. A good practice is to vary your delivery modes as much as possible. This keeps students engaged and participating. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Hi Mark, Thanks for your post to the forum. You made an excellent point. Our students need to understand learning styles from a personal viewpoint, but being able to recognize the styles of others can make them much more effective in the workplace. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

The benefits are the fact that I can try and figure out the styles of my students is that I can design my class to connect with the most students at any time. I also try and target the other students but by targeting the major part of my class, I have a better chance of more effectively getting a majority of the class learning the subject.
I like to make all Students more aware that there are learning styles and to help them see their learning styles. I also let them know that they will be interacting with others that have different communication and learning styles in class and out in their careers. It’s not only important for the teacher to know and identify Students learning styles but it is just as important that that the students recognize communication and learning styles of others.

The benefits are creating instructional activities and strategies for all learners that will effectively assess their learning and comprehension. It also helps with classroom management eliminating confusion and disturbances due to unmotivated and disengaged students.
The first day of class I ask each student if they know their preferred learning style. Some know, some don't what I am talking about. For those, I have a general conversation about past jobs, which ones they may have liked and why, as well as their general likes and hobbies. Together we try to figure out their learning style.
