Great choices for visual learners, Mohammed!

I use power point that contan slides with multiple color, different back grounds.

Hi Carlos- Thanks for your post to the forum. i am very impressed with your eforts to encourage your hands on and visual learners to understand and be comfortable with the reading that they will need to do throughout their careers. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I use multiple resources in my medical classes (veterinary). All of my lectures and practical classes have a power-point presentation that include a lot of pictures and videos, but I also include short readings. The visual learner has the tendency to underestimate the value and use of reading. The medical field is very dynamic and the amount of new information on research papers is always more that the one on multimedia. One technique that helps me to transfer the information to the students is to always use pictures of abnormal conditions and later just describe with words or in a short reading and try to connect with the right mental picture that was previously created.

Hi Walter -What a creative idea - I love that! Susan

One of the things I started doing recently during a lesson on Power Point was to create sort of a timed arts-and-crafts slide competition. I supply the students with some parameters, set a time limit and have them work in pairs to create a ppt presentation template. Then I display each students response for the class to see. Its fun, interactive and very visual.

I am a visual learner myself, so I often use, and can suggest the following: models, maps, charts, graphs, diagrams, PowerPoint presentations, video clips, student handouts and assorted learning aids.

I teach A&PII and I use real life footage from youtube such as anorexia or obesity and how it affects the body as a whole.
This was part of the chapter on digestion and nutrition.

Great use of varied media in your instruction, Brent! Best wishes - Susan

With the availability of Youtube and a litany of other resources online, I lean heavily on visual and graphic representations of information. I decide whether I want a visual for analysis of a concept, a demonstration, or student application of a concept and insert it into my powerpoints throughout the lecture.

Illustations, watching videos on topic, writting on board, diagrams, powerpoints, and hands on.

Hi Paul - I love your "post it note" idea!! Best wishes- Susan

I teach a computer class and I use a combination of teaching strategies to instruct the students about the different components of the computer. I first use lecture, powerpoints and demonstration to show the different parts of the computer, then I have the students as part of groups use post-it notes to label all the parts of the computer they can remember. After the students have labeled the parts, I then go to each group and inspect the labels and as I peel off each post-it I ask the students to provide more information about the component.

Hi Tracey- Thanks for your post to the forum. Good idea to get students out of their seats and interacting! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

As an instructor and a visual learner myself I need to see it! So when i get infront of the classroom i use alot of visual ads and draw on the broad alot.

I teach medical assisting classes. In the class I have used a game we used to play as kids. Called consentration. So we make cards up and i place them on the desk for the students to try to match up. I create several stations for them to go to to try the game, THis technique seems to have helped them on their tests.

Films thst show instruction of procedures powerpoint that has color

I teach medical assistants. We have two hours of clinical lab which is all hands on, two hours of lecture that I incorporate board work and powerpoint, and one hour of computer lab. It seems to work out well this way.

Powerpoints; handouts; demonstrations; prototypes; role plays

Hi Melvin - Thanks for your post to the forum. Because our graduates will have to adapt to other styes in the workplace, I never advocate teaching totally to just one learning style, even if the class is 100% visual. I would suggest assigning things like presentations that will require text and audio/speaking etc. as well as visuals. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
