I agree. I have found that taking the time to learn which styles are present and to deliver content using this information, results in a more successful class in terms of outcomes and the experience for students and myself.
Hi Nancy - thanks for your post to the forum. You have teaching to the learning styles down perfectly! Best wishes-Susan
Students will be less frustrated and master material faster if they have an opportunity to receive information in their primary learning styles. This is not possible all the time, but if presentation styles are varied or if various ways to learn the material are available, students will be more successful.
We try to have a lecture, powerpoint with videos, and reading assignments. We then follow-up the topic with a lab.
I think is hard to delivery the material in the four learning styles, however if we mix them up for the entire quarter, we will capture more that 75% of a complete class. I like that my students feel comfortable learning and be able to apply why they learn.
To ensure that all learning styles are addressed in course content delivery
In my experience providing different resources and approaches to the different learning styles for students keeps the students engaged in class. This allows the students to be able to learn the information the way they need to and also gives them a sense that their education is important to you.
Hi Jonathan- Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree it's important to use all the delivery styles as often as possible. Best wishes! Susan
Since no two people learn the same, we risk the chance that they will understand the material if we disregard their learning styles. That is why it would be important with a large group of students to offer the information in several formats. Only having a lecture would be difficult for students that are visual learners. To accommodate them, we could utilize PowerPoint or a similar visual.
this maximizes the students ability to learn and be successful with our program.
I think that it's important to provide material in different formats so that students can learn to pick up information in formats that are not their preferred type. If all info is given in a student's preferred format, he/she will never learn to be an adaptive learner.
Students tend to retain information better if they are given the information in a way that they can relate to. I am a hands on learning so I learn by doing, if I am in a class that doesn't give me an opportunity to learn by doing, I am less likely to retain the information.
It may be more work up front to create a lesson plan that teaches to all learning styles, yet in the end the students will gain so much more from the course. You are apt to retain a larger number of students.
Our role as instructor/ facilitator/ teacher is to allow our students to be successful in their learning. By knowing their learning styles and our teaching style, a positive environment is set up. "Everyone comes out a winner."
I think it's important to share with students some ways they can involve all the learning styles. I teach keyboarding. I tell students they should involve as many senses as possible when learning to key. Fingers press the keys, eyes see the copy, they should speak the letters out loud and listen to what they say, etc. It really helps them focus on those first few lessons.
Good teaching methodology requires teachers use whatever means possible to reach students in manner that is productive for students, not themselves.
Students learn through a variety of styles; to meet the needs of all learners, vary the method of instruction. The learners will then not only take in the information but also be more likely to apply it.
As we have learned in the lecture for Unit 1, we all learn and take in information differently. In order to reach all of my students, I will need to provide a variety of methods and resources to connect the information to the learning process.
In addition to the benefit of learning, this approach of using a variety of resources also provides variety and change in my role as the instructor. I enjoy learning new things and absorbing information from a variety of sources and methods. This variety can keep the information fresh from both sides!

We all learn differently. We can't expect that our students learn the same way we do. To all for their success we need present them with material in many different ways.
This makes sense on several levels. One, it only makes sense to play to a student's strong suit, helping her or him learn more, faster. Two, it's reassuring to our students when they are being taught by someone who cares enough to discover how they learn best. Third, when we are more effective in our teaching we are energized and happy. Happy is good.
For your students to be successful, you need to involve all of them in learning. Planning different activities and presentation methods helps to ensure that you are giving the best chance to be successful. Students will have a dominant method of learning, but will also benefit from varied approaches.
