The Biggest Stressor
What is your number one reoccurring stressor? After reading the module, list some of the remedies you can use to reduce or eliminate your number one stressor.
The biggest reliever for me is to get up in the morning and workout. If I need to get work done. I try to get it done before I leave for the afternoon. If I am required to perform a job. I schedule it in within the workday or if it is dealing with my phase. I will assign it to a group to diagnose and repair. I will give them extra credit when they get the job done.
Yes, that could help quite a bit Brandon. Getting people on the same page can be tough but it's so important. When everyone is aligned with goals, it makes achieving them easy.
My biggest stress is getting everyone on the same page and things done in a timly matterI need to get talk to team members and have a daily check list the stress list will help a great deal
The best stressor reliever, having an activity that help you to set up or empty your mind at list an hour a day or 3 times weekly.
Physical activity , practice golf, yoga, go to the gym to work out, play tennis.
Try also to hang out the least with your co-worker because you always ending talking about work lol .
One of the things that stresses me out the most is a mountain of task and no direction. I think listing them and prioritizing them would help a great deal with managing them.
It's a real challenge to watch our coworkers leave, especially in this economy. When they go, we often have to take on more responsibility as we, in parallel, worry about our own jobs.
Balancing my work time and my home time is my biggest Stressor.
Seeing co works leaving for reasons that are not shared, nor talked about.
Am I going to have a job here?
And with that same breath of air "Can you double?
The biggest stressor is my class size. Some calsses have too many students in them for me to ba able to teach each student what I feel is important. I have to change my teaching style during the larger classes so the students get the most important information.
Sounds like a great approach Kenneth. You'll have to share your secret for how you accomplish this so well. Most instructors are not in the same position.
I do not let stress bother me, I believe that if i just deal with an issue to best of my abilitys I can deal with about anything that arises, I do not take "SHOP" home with me either and i sleep well every night.
Your situation sounds tough Michael but I do think you propose a nice solution. Go ahead and give working doubles every other three weeks a try.
My biggest stressor is not having enough instructors train to teach the course I teach. When the student load is high we are asked to work a 16 hour day. I have a 1 hour commute each way so that’s another two hours. Due to the medication I’m on I have a hard time sleeping and when I do finally get to sleep 4 hours later the alarm goes off and the next day starts. When the weekend comes I usually sleep and my family does not see much of me. When I can I try to alternate working doubles with the instructors in my department but they all have health issues also. Management is aware of the problem but all departments are currently experiencing lack of manpower so our needs are not on the top of the list. Lately management has been complaining about the amount of overtime so this adds a little more stress if you let it.
My solution to my problem would be to alternate working doubles to every other three weeks (would like to work only afternoons but probably will not happen) allowing me to get my sleep and visit my doctor when needed. My family would also get to see me more often.
Yes, asking for student assistance is a great way to keep projects going and find new ways of engaging them in the learning process.
Having so much to do and then adding more to the list, most of the time is because I would like the job done right the first time so I so it myself. Relying on others to so job is stressful because they take longer than if you did the job yourself so its faster to do it. The way to eliminate this is get my students to help me get the project done.
"Time" I take a step back as much as possible. Take a deep breath. Think about what is happening around me at the time. Think about what to say. Although this all happens very quickly.
I think the biggest stressor I have is myself. I am the type of person that tries to fix everything. I have learned that there are many factors that can contribute to ones stress. Most of the factors that contributed to my stress I had no control over. I have learned to fix things that I can and don’t worry about things in which I have no control over. Now this isn’t an easy task and by no means do I turn a blind eye at everything, but I have learned to pick my battles. I want to be a positive person, there is enough negativity in the world and it doesn’t need mine. I cant make people think the way I do, I can’t choose the amount of hours I am required to work, I don’t write the rules of this institution. All I do is the best with what I have and I can honestly say I sleep well at night.
One of my biggest stressors is working in disorganization. Try to learn to work in disorganization.
Make-up work from students. Students handing in assignments late and/or having to schedule make-up exams. I have reduced some of the stress from this source by not allowing make-up exams without documentation, and enforcing strong penalties on other assignments turned in late.
That's tough Jim. There are many instructors, as well as people in other professions, who have a hard time letting go of the job at the end of the day. Try changing things up in the evening. For example, spend time with friends. Take on a hobby. Try to do something new and different with your time at the end of the day and see if this takes your mind away from work.
