I have mixed feelings about showing students work. First off I think it does help show students expectations of what the need to complete and the quality of work you are looking for. But I also feel like sometimes it puts more presure on the student to compete with each other. The types of students that I have seem to be very insecure so if I use another students work they tend to feel like it has to be exactly like that. I like to give my students the chance to be creative and use their own ideas

Showing students examples of the work will give them a better understanding of what the instructor expects. I feel that in order to succeed, students and instructors need to have many tools on their belt.

Gets them started with questions if they are not sure of work.

Students understand what is required of them, and that other students were able to master the course material.
When students see examples, they are immediately able to understand how what they will be doing will correspond to the careers they have selected.

It is always good to show examples by exhibiting a high level of preparation before the start of a new class.

In all my classes, students never fail to ask me for an example of a course requirement-a journal or a care plan for example. I find that eventhough you have provided the students a step-by-step instructions on how to write a journal or a care plan, they still seemed perplexed on how to do it. However, when you show them an example, they seem to get it right away.

I believe that showing students examples of the work will also send them a message saying that the work is really not that hard to accomplish because it has been done by other students.

In my career tech school class, I have found that the students really appreciate my showing examples of their ultrasound images because it makes them work harder to get better ultrasound images.

One of my assignments, for example, is a research paper in APA style. Showing students an example of a student-written paper helps them visualize what their final product should look like. Part of the battle of writing a research paper is to make it look like one. Convincing students that the look is attainable helps them focus on the content.

To make them aware of their coursework & let them be prepared & feel comfortable with their coursework

It reinforces why they are taking the course by relating to what they will be doing in the field.

showing examples is very important; since it clarifies students on what they have to do. Also before any assignment I make sure I introduce my students to a similar work that a previous student have completed.

I'm going to start scanning in these examples. When I assign the project I'll put the directions in a PowerPoint format and insert the examples in the presentation.

I have fun and enjoy showing the students my past projects and even the grades I have gotten, and the mistakes I have made. I challenge them to do better than I, and even become more creative.

Hi Brandy,
Knowing what to expect eases fear and can serve to be motivating as well.

To grab their intersest. They need to know what they are working towards. In my field of teaching most of the students are starting over, training for a new career in their 30's to 50's. They have to remain excited about this throughout the 9 months of learning and training otherwise they often give up prior to finishing.

Students tend to ask questions about areas of concern for them as individuals

To give them an idea of what to expect

Hi Samuel,
Showing examples also eases fear and motivates students to get started.

Hi Arlinda,
Great learning is when theory has been discussed and application is being applied to determine if the student grasped the concept or not.

Hi David,
Students are proud whenever their work has been chosen to be used as a showcase piece. Great way to boost self confidence/esteem.
