Hi Patricia,
The majority of our students are visual learners, and they need to see it in order to better understand.

It is good to show examoles of student work because it makes them feel comfortable and settle quickly into class.

allowing the student to be "hands on" where possible to apply the thoery showed in the examples, may help as well.

i think its MORE important to post examples of current students work. Ive had 50 years old blush and be flattered who ahve never had their school work showcased.

I find that my student learn more by seing a project than by listening to how it is done.

Hi Taunya,
Students need to be put at ease when they are to do an assignment. Sharing examples decreases apprehension.

Hi David,
Seeing is believing. Sharing examples is very motivating and add clarity.

I think showing examples will help ease tension about the assignment. I believe this is an effective method.

Helps them relate to and have a better understanding of the topic.

I think the subject matter can make a difference in this situation. I teach a lot of art courses and critique is a very important part of the process. Students need to learn both how to take criticism, as well as how to objectively evaluate others' work in a constructive way. Some students have a hard time with critique at first but I find that they quickly come to appreciate the value in the exercise when they see how it can improve their results. Instructor guidance during this process becomes very important to make sure students are approaching it with the right attitude.

Hi Melissa,
Showing examples provide great clarity.

Showing examples of student work is an effective instructional tool because it shows a students progress in a way that a student can easily see achievement.

Showing examples of the future work helps to familiarize them with what they will be learning annd serves to set their expectationns. As the semester goes on, as new complex material is coming up, I will review it in an overview format with them to allow them to see how it fits together with the previously presented material. We then dive in and go through the new material in depth.

I agree, I have recieved and had great success in showing examples

I have realized that it is very important to show examples of course work because some students are very doubtful. unless you show them an example of how to do the work, they will keep asking you "What do you want me to do?" or 'how do you want me to do it?" even for the most simple things. Not only showing them examples of upcoming course i most of the time do the first exercise with them and then i let them do the rest.

When we start clinical rotatations with new student, I ususally get a copy of a previous student case studies to show them, why we pick that particular student , and let them see what we are expected of them. It makes the students feel more motivated to continue working towards there goal.

It is important to show students examples of the work they will be doing in the course so that they have an idea of what you are looking for, especially if it is work that the students will create entirely on their own. From my experience, I used to assume they knew how to label English assignments with their names, which assignment, date, etc. I quickly found out that if I wanted certain information, I needed to make it clear to the students. I also discovered that if I was not clear in what I wanted, and I received what I thought was inappropriate, then I wanted to hold the student responsible. That is not fair to the student, and I would be critical on myself for creating the situation, which is now difficult to change. I learned to be clear, precise, and explain to students exactly what I want from them, and showing them is best because many students are visual learners. If the instructor follows these guidelines, then the student can be held responsible - the way it should be.

MAKES THEM LESS NERVOUS ABOUT THE WORK

It is important to show examples, in order to make sure the student or learner understands. I helps them make decisions about the next step in the instructions. It helps the Instrucor track their progession by accessing what they have learned.

Hi James,
I concur! The majority of learners are visual.
