Hi Mindy,
I love it! I can see how this gesture can be very motivating to the students.

Hi Derrick ,
Absolutely, students love knowing exactly what it is they need to do.

Hi Liz,
Most students are visual learners, and they can get it, if they can see it.
Patricia Scales
I agree. Many of my students need a model to feel secure as to whether or not they are doing the assignment correctly.
Students need examples as a model for how their work should look. This clears up any misunderstandings that written instructions can produce.
I instituted a Wall of Fame about two years ago. Students love to get their work displayed on it. They have a sense of pride when we choose their project to belong to the wall. The students seem to raise the bar and get better every class to ensure that they will be included on the wall.
It gives them an idea on the kind of work they will be doing in the course
I show my students examples of the upcoming work to engage them in the class. For example, if it is a CPR class I will show them some of the skills that we will perform in adults, children, and babies.
Hi Kelsey,
Nicely stated! We have our students develop a portfolio of work samples to share with prospective employers.
Patricia Scales
Hi Christal,
Absolutely! The examples soldify things in the students mind. They know exactly what is expected of them.
Patricia Scales
It helps students to see examples so they know exactly what you as the instructor is looking for, as well as if they are visual learners.
Hi Patricia,
Showing examples of work that the students will be doing, not only serves as a guide, but also shows expectations. When it comes to grading, I always show students what is needed for the letter grade they want to earn. An example, if they want to earn an "A", then more than just the required work might be necessary, this could be in the form of expanding on homework or on a project.
It also serves as an example of what the finished product looks like, if it is a project, it is something that the students can be proud of and keep, maybe even use as sample work for a job interview.
Thanks so much,
Kelsey
If the instructor shows examples of work for the upcoming course it will help alleviate some of the students anxiety. In addition the instructor can use handouts to futher illustrate what the students will be doing in the class.
Hi Clara,
I agree. It also adds great clarity.
Patricia Scales
Hi Roberta,
You are on point! Students get it when they can see it!
Patricia Scales
Hi Abdalla,
I concur! Great clarity is added when examples are shared.
Patricia Scales
Hi Linda,
Most students are visual learners, and if they can see an example they gain a better understanding as to what is expected of them.
Patricia Scales
Hi Kizzy,
It sounds like you do a fine job of getting your students ready to be MAs.
Patricia Scales
Showing examples of what is expected establishes expectations for course work.
Students are usually unfamiliar with the specific course content, so they are unsure what to expect in the coming weeks. They are apprehensive, because they want to be successful. Showing examples of the work they will be doing gives them a concrete sample of a result that meets the Instructor's expectations and will lead to success for them.
