I have learned that an online instructor should be very familiar with the LMS before he/she teaches the course material. In addition, students must have a LMS orientation BEFORE starting the online course. I have found both these items to be very true as we had to start online teaching in a hurry when the quarentine started.
It is important to think and develop the course format based on how you want it delivered. I do lock modules and will need to create a schedule or checklist to make sure my settings are inline with course format.
That structure is only one aspect of a course shell. Being able to navigate is equally important.
In order for students to be successful, I learned that it is very important for the CMS to be user friendly for students. Navagational simplicity is crucial for online couses because the features will alllow students to locate and use information with ease. In an e-learning environment it is critical for the teacher to be well prepared before beginning the class. I have never taught an online class before, so my preparation will need to be very thorough. I would want to take the student orientation as mentioned in the material so that I am understanding what my students will be expected to accomplish.

As I teach a blended learning course, many of the components are in place, but in case of moving to a total online presense, then the rest of the course content would need to be modified and moved to accomodate the rest of the course offerings. Organization is the structural key to online learning. I also think that communication between the instructor and the student is vital. If a student has a question, they shouldn't be left hanging for days, this will cause increased frustration that doesn't need to be there.
Most of the things an instructor needs to do is standard for online courses. I think a major factor in being succesful as an online teacher is being organized! Even more so than in a regular classroom setting.
What I have learned from the Online Teaching Techniques module is that getting to know one’s students is important whether you are in the classroom or online. Also, the comprehensive list of expectations of the instructor is information that needs to be determined prior to starting to teach in an online environment. This list consists of good interview questions for an online teacher to ask a potential employer.

I've learned that retention and success rates are higher when students have the learning support and technological support that they need to succeed. Also, teachers need to know how to operate and manage the CMS that they're using.

It wss interesting to discover that once you have mastered the curve of this new way to instruct ( support, presentation, etc. ) this can be an excellent way to engage the student.
It makes sense that the course is set up in modules and lessons. Many of us were thrust into an online atmosphere with the onset of Covid-19. I now see how I can make my course more user friendly just in how it is set up for the student.
I need to utilize my own time tables more - when things open and when they close. Also be aware of how fast I 'm providing feedback
