I learn to preject my presence to my students by initiating, lead, monitor, and manage synchronized dicussions sessions.
We are relational. Students need to see that the instructor is more than just credentials and authority.
It is so important with E-learning instructors are part of the learning pocess and not just the teaching process.
It is important for your students to get to know the instructor via a biography (credentials/hobbies, etc.) and for the instructor to know the students via a biography as well. This will help to foster an environment where the student feels they are an individual and a sense of trust can begin to be established between the instructor and student.
While I think some aspects of the in-classroom environment translate to online, I don't think some of the synchronous activities work well for large classes.
E-lerning should be just as effective as in-person or residential learning. One of the first assignments that I have my students participate in is a biography to briefly introduce themselves. I direct them to mine as an example so if they did not read it initially they can review it and learn why I am qualified. This helps validate my credentials at the same time they have an example to refer to if they do not know how to complete the assignment. This gives me a little insight as to how they will be as a student too.
I learned how to make sure that the students know my presence as the professor for the online course. Some tips, is to create a quick video clip with narratives and also establishing guidelines through virtual office hours and communication.
Projecting your presence means more than sitting behind a computer and letting your students know you exist. It is about also getting to know the people on the other side on a somewhat personal level and letting them know why you are qualified to instruct their course.
I have learned that it is critical to make personal connections with students early and often. I will do this by incorporating video and audio responses and feedback as much as possible to increase the personal connection.
Developing a relationship with your students promotes a more meaningful learning environment. You gain respect by providing your credentials and expertise, and can open dialog by sharing hobbies and interests.
iT IS IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS KNOW ABOUTH THE INSTRUCTOR AND FEEL CONFIDENT THE EXPERTISE IS THER.

The module presents useful information for successful online learning elements.

The individual learner experience should be at the core of the instructor's planning. He / She should be able to address each student's needs, questions and expectations.
I like the idea of the personal bio and requesting student bio - I have done that in the past, but have found I need to keep notes as reminders about the details on each student for a bit!
It is in the nature of teaching that the instructor will have to project his /her authority to the students in a respectable and impressive manner. The students are entittled to know your qualifications and experience as a professional. Thus, making it more effective to project your expertise from a distance. This is the first step in building rapport and establishing confidence in a teacher-student relationship.

There are many ways to project your presence. Explaining your academic achievements and accomplishments provides security in that they will be learning from someone who has extensive experience.
