Deborah,
CIE is a consumer protection agency but also protects the institution. A win-win.
i encouage student check the Labor dept as well for requirements.
By following the rules and regulations, the institution and the student are both protected.
keeping current ensures students of everything being offered, while it helps me give the best service possible. In any job, rules and regulations must be followed to keep the business current, especially in an evolving field such as education.
The CIE has a set of requirements/guidelines that must be followed. Following these guidelines is extremely important to stay in compliance and avoid any misrepresentation.
CIE requirements/guidelines are often changing and keeping yourself updated is very important.
It is crucial to stay up-to-date with any new: changes, and or addtions to the rules and regulations; It should be a requirement of every department, so there is no confusion and or errors.
Coming in late to this discussion I would have to agree with so many of you. I do feel however that this is a great training tool that I personally would like all my coworkers in all departments take this training to see exactly what is going on in the admissions deoartment. I know in many schools that I have worked admsissions is sometimes misunderstood so this would be a great addition.
Hi Corlee,
The Bureau of labor Statistics is a great choice :-)
The Bureau of Labor Statistics is one resource but my favorite is O *Net. O*NET program is the nation's primary source of occupational information, which allows student to look for specific searches pertaining to the field the student may be interested in. Give O*NET a try is user friendly and maybe your students may enjoy using it.
In this economy is difficult to tell a stay what will the salary range be as an advisor is important that w provide the necessary information to create thought and for the student to make a choice that will be to the students best interest. There are several websites that I suggest that is helpful for the student to be able to gather data and salary range. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is one resource but my favorite is O *Net. I think it is a great tool for education to admissions staff. I have been doing this for a little over ten years and never can have enough of this type of training.
With many of the schools getting negative news coverage in the last year I think it is important that admissions staff receive this type of training in order to clean up the industry.
It has made me fully aware of all the aspects of being an admissions rep. Keeping things up to date is very important at my institution and the CIE requirements will remind me to make sure I have all the information I need for students and myself.
This is interesting to me since I primarily work in a Canadian institution. Taking this program reiterates the type of infomation that is important to remember as an Admissions Rep. I wish we had similar programs to provide to our Canadian Rep's. Guidelines to follow make the Admissions Rep's job easier in my opinion.
CIE affects how I perform my job as an admissions representative in a couple ways: it forces us to do our jobs the right way by offering all the right approach to our prospective students and doing whats right. Making us adhering to the rules, regulations and laws.
The Commission for Independent Education is responsibe for matters relating to postsecondary educational institutions. Including consumer protection, institutional policies and licensure of independent schools, colleges and universities. By providing the Rules and Regulations that Admissions Representatives must follow in order to provide exceptional service as an Admissions Representative.
The requirements will enable me to have guidelines in protecting the interest of the student. I beleive these requirments are necessary so that agents act ethically and provide superior support to students.
I think it's good that the CIE requires all Admissions personnel to complete this training. That way everyone uses the same guidelines and follows the same rules, so you have standardization and the students are provided clear and accurate information.
Kelly,
Excellent! Compliance is the only way.
Suzanne,
Compliance, honesty and integrity. You cannot go wrong.
