The CIE requires that I, as an Admissions Representative, follow the FAC rules and regs. Every AR has to make sure any claim he makes can be backed up by published data from serious sources. Even so, sometimes, as for example, questions about salary, is best to suggest the student make his own research on the subject.
The CIE main concern is always, fair consumer practices, as is the main concern of accrediting agencies or the State Legislature.
Thank you! I enjoy being able to back everything up with a paper copy of rules, regulations, requirements, stipulations, etc. :-)
Edwin,
A very good practice, indeed!
I always advise prospective students to do their own research, so that they don't feel like they've been influenced or persuaded by anyone else. By doing their own research and by encouraging this, you can assure that the student is making educated decisions using their own logic and understanding, instead of someone else's.
Bettina,
Excellent advice as this is a best practice!
Jennifer,
Thank you for the feedback.
Jennifer,
You are beginning to make the association of the rules and consumer protection. Great job!
Emmanuel,
The Commission is ther to protect both the school and the student.
So, in response to the original post, the rules have not affected my role yet, because I have not started my role! However, I have learned alot about the rules in this training, and they all seem to make sense to me. If I was a prospect, I would not want the Admissions Representative to promise me a job with a certain salary, only to discover that that was not the case upon graduation.
I believe that this training has been very helpful to me for many reasons. As I prepare to begin my career as an Admissions Representative, there are many things involved that I did not know prior to this training. There are many rules and reguations to be compliant with, and it has been very helpful to learn about the things that I am allowed to say, and the things I am not allowed to say.
I think the tools I have learned in this training have provided me with a good basis as I move forward...I am going to carefully learn the different elements of the catalog so that I do not break any of the Florida Commission for Independent Education rules.
I think the rules make sense though. It seems logical not to promise a student a position that you can't guarantee. Also, I don't believe there would ever be a reason for me to discuss potential salaries with perspective students. It just seems like that is asking for trouble.
In regards to transferability of credits, I would direct the prospect to the appropriate department.
When it comes to salery information I always encourage students to do their own research as it varies from state to stae city to city and company to company!
Hello Patty,
In fairness, do not you think that the rules should have been less tedious or time consuming or simply easier to read and comprehend?
Emmanuel
The commission helps by providing rules and regulations to follow-
Emmanuel
Patricia,
It is equally important that the student be given resources to research on their own. Takes away the possibility of misleading the student about salary expectations.
Zulma,
It is very important to do so!
Lucy,
You are exactly right. The best way to conduct business.
It dictates all aspects of my job as admissions representative.
CIE provides guidelines to follow to avoid misunderstanding, fraud, and treat everyone I come in contact with fairly and honestly.
Thanks
I try to ensure that i give my student the most honest and accurate information possible to each specific situation.
I agree! The Bureau of Labor Statistics is a great resource to find information on specific industry's and jobs
As a business owner in the same field we teach in my institution, I have a good idea about the salary range the industry offer to recent graduates.
