We have had an entrance assessment in place for as long as I have worked here. I love it. Not only does it ensure they are qualified to succeed but it gives them confidence and a sense of accomplishment. I think that is important to really get to know your potential student. During the interview process an admissions representative needs to ask the difficult questions. Wait for the answers and let them come up with ways to overcome some of the obstacles in front of them. When a student is ready you know and when they are not ready...you know that too.
At our school we have administered a text like this for some time. We have found that it not only is a benefit for the school but also for the students. By no means does this test determine their acceptence into the school but it does give us a proper evaluation of how to best assist the student before they even sit for their first day in class. WIN WIN!
Our prospective students are required to have an ACT or SAT minimum score. If they do not have this minimum score, they may take our assessment test and must have a certain score for acceptance. Our admissions officers also conduct interviews and ask many questions to determine if the student is a good fit for the school and vice versa.
We make sure that we cover all placement rates and discuss options for them while they are in the program, and after. We make sure that they are in a program that matches what they will be successful in as best as possible and understand the field in which they are studying in.
My school, in the past few years has done an excellent job in training veteran and new hire Admissions Advisors to properly disclose the graduation and placement rates as well as adhering to the OACCS and Title IV regulations. When we speak with potential applicants, we are very adamant about assisting them with fulfilling their educational and career goals by encouraging and motivating the applicant in their best direction to complete such goals.
We are always evaluating our scripts for the interviews to ensure the best quality interview for the student. We recently discussed adding a few more discussion points in relation to student expectations in regards to time spent studying each week, potential employment outcome and the like. I think it is always good to take a step back and review so as to be constantly improving.
My institution had made tremendous changes to our interview process. We want not only to make sure the student is a right fit for our university but that we are also the right fit for the student. We want to know the students true passion. What is their motivation behind furthering education and the career in which they desire? We get to know them as people and try to uncover any obstacles that may stand in their way to be successful. Examples of some these obstacles are transportation, childcare and even having a support system.
We offer practice interviews as well as resume' reviews and recommendations to all our graduates.
For our school's nursing program, we increased the entrance exam scores and required students to write an essay immediately after taking the test. This allows our nursing administrator to better assess the applicant's writing skills before entering the program.
YES. We've gone through a step-wise process that involves more rigorous academic assessment, fingerprint background checks and panel interviews combined with resume review and a written essay. We really want to be sure that applicants are committed to working in the field (and are not lifetime students) and are prepared to succeed in class -- we do no one a service by admitting them if they are not academically prepared or have a record that will prevent them from working in their chosen field.
Requiring a background check prevents alot of problems that could arise without said checks.
At our school, we require our prospective students to take and pass an entrance exam, have a High School Diploma or GED. Also, we require students to do a backgrund check and pass a physical evelaution. It is very impoirtant to have well qualified prospective students.
we have admissions tests we use to determine is prospective student will succeed
Analyzing the results of license exam that students need to complete upon graduation, we are comparing them to our entrance test requirements . To improve the outcome of license exam's results we implemented placement test to determine students needing extra assistance in general education studies.
yes, we are very upfront students in the fields that require a "clean " background.
i agree, while sitting and talking with the student in the admissions process its easy to tell who is ready to put their all into the program and who is not so sure they're ready...
we now run a background check.
We have admission exams that students have to pass in order to qualify. We also have tutoring sessions to help students to improve on some coursework.
Our career services department discusses these possibilities with our potential students. Our representatives ensure they give potential students all the information they need to make the most educated decision.
Actually, the opposite, as it becomes more difficult to find qualified applicants, the standards seem to be increasing at the same time.
