A course like this one crystlizes the varying parts that work together to provide successful online management for an online instructor. I will recommend this course to all my clleagues.

ED205-Teaching Self-Management

Whenever I am assigned to teach Management Skills, my favorite quote that I always share with my students is this one from Warren Buffett, "I look for three things in hiring people.  The first is personal integrity, the second is intelligence, and the third is a high energy level.  But if you don't have the first, the other two will kill you."  I want my students to realize how important integrity is in one's personal and professional relationships.  Integrity covers everything. If you have it, I will trust you with my own life and sleep tight.

This course introduced me to something very new to me.  I never had the chance to get involved in any service learning activity before, and this course provided me with what I need to know about service learning and its importance to the institution, students, and the community.  I have been recently assigned to start a service learning program for our new program, and I thought it was as simple as finding a site and get them to allow us to do service learning.  Well, it was not.  Now, I am excited to work on this project because I feel that I… >>>

I think this course is very helpful and informative.

online vs F2F environments and approaches

i have really enjoyed learning more about creating the online environment. i look forward to participating in that format more as the world gets smaller and more opportunities come up in that area.

ED 312

This course was really enjoyable. The characters used were the right ones to describe individual learners.

Soft Skills

This course is very useful although the test questions in the final quiz tend to be a little tricky. You think you chose the best answer but only to find out you didnt.

ED113 Refresher

As I completed the ED113 course regarding classroom management for adults, I realized the need to frequently visit the effectiveness of ones teaching style and classroom management techinques.  As educators, I think we oftne become comfortable with a dominant style and as such, tend to use one style more often than others (assuming our style works for us and the students will always adapt).  In the name of continuous improvement and the dynamic and diverse demographics of adult learners - I think there is even a greater need to consider, execute, and evaluate a hybrid approach to classroom management.  The… >>>

This course was very useful to remind me about technology and its use in the classroom. Information was relevant to what I am doing now in my classroom, and challenges I've faced with technology.

thanks!

Helicopter parents? Fight them or join them?

If you have ever dealt with a hovering parent interested in their son or daughter's participation in your course, you have probably met a helicopter parent.  Should we fight (FERPA law, etc) or work with them?  See what the U. of Tenn. is doing.

ED 209

This course was very informative although the final quiz was a little challenging. Most of the required more than one answer.

Moving Up

I am on the fence and love teaching and the work I do for the public sector too, however, like the public sector I would like to move up and maybe even transition to the private sector in higher education.  What do you recommend e.g., more professional development courses, extensive research etc., that I should attempt before trying to get on the Tenure (we will say T-word) track at a public or private educational institution?

ED-106 Enhancing Student Learning

What I gained the most from this course was a sincere and clearer understanding of different reading disabilities and/or language barriers often exhibited in classes.  I have tried a few items during my teaching tenure and with some success, however I am now going to instill the suggestions mentioned in this course material in full force.  I wish I had taken this course two years ago.

I think all instructors should take time to invest in.  Our students are so diversified now and many with reading disabilities.

And we all know as Insrtructors.... we never give up on any student to… >>>

Best OL Education Program

This was, by far, the easiest, well constructed, on line learning program I have ever taken.  The course content was very helpful in my learning, as I am new to this mode of teaching.  I find it all challenging.  The computer has not been easy for me to grasp, being an older generation user.  But I will continue to keep trying.  This course has given me hope that I will someday be an online instructor.

I was not aware of there are so many different ways of managing an online classroom.  I have sat in on other instructors classes, and… >>>

This was the Best Course I did so far. I run by the seat of my pants all day long. My students ask if I need help with my desk all the time . Iam taking so much with after this course!

Laptops and typing lowers students grades?

You might have already seen this but it is a particularly good article on how the use of laptops may be hurting students abilities to learn as compared to writing.

This article/study also looks at the subject. Better learning through handwriting  So what is happening to our students who aren't taking written notes?
