ED 115

I found ED115 to be helpful in differentiating between hard and soft skills.  I had some professors back in school that were absolutely brilliant, but I still thought they were terrible instructors.  Now I understand why.  I'm even more motivated then before to not only share my knowledge with my students, but also have the ability to manage my classroom in a harmonious and productive way.

lab work

was good course

Ed 111

The class was helpful in so much as I was presented with some additional ways to help students interact with the material they are learning. Time management has been an issue for me in the past and now I learned in this presentation a few new tricks to try.

Which type of student is most likely to succeed?

Is there a type of student who is better able to perform. Is that factor intelligence or is it somethig else. I contend that it is the desire, above all, which will determine success. I see students who do not look the part or are not above average itelligence, yet succeed. The oe thing is seems clear to be is the amount of effort put in.

Education should be fun.

I have been an instructor for the past 3 and 1/2 years and the one overriding thing I have learned is that learnning is fun. Some may say that is not the job of the educator but I would disagree. A student who expects to have a fun and informative experience is more likely to show up to class and want to particiapate. Student engagement is the key. One way to get your students engaged is to ask them a lot of questions which becomes fun to them because they are participating and using the brain they were blessed with.… >>>

ED116 Critical Thinking

I just completed ED116 Critical Thinking. I found it to be an excellent course. It had some great information and ideas that can certainly be used in the classroom. It has been a while since I have taken a course in critical thinking and it reminded me of how to use my critical thinking skills and apply them to problem solving. I was also reminded about how through the use of puzzels I can help my students develope their critical thinking skills. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to improve or refresh their critical thinking and problem solving… >>>

Recommending EL108

Just completed EL108 - Preparing Students to Become Good Online Learners I gained some helpful information, which I will be able to pass along to my classes.  Particularly I have been struggling with students not completing assignments on time so I will use the strategies learned here to help them apply better time management planning. Thanks for another great class!

3 Rules to Spark Learning [TED TALK]

It took a life-threatening condition to jolt chemistry teacher Ramsey Musallam out of ten years of “pseudo-teaching” to understand the true role of the educator: to cultivate curiosity. In a fun and personal talk, Musallam gives 3 rules to spark imagination and learning, and get students excited about how the world works.

As a high school chemistry teacher, Ramsey Musallam expands curiosity in the classroom through multimedia and new technology.  How do you elicit the curiosity of your students?

ED110 Would Recommend!

Hi!  I just finished taking ED110 and truly enjoyed the course.  It was easy to follow along and I liked the fact that I did not have to digest it all at once.  The facilitator was quick to respond.  It was interesting to read the posts of my classmates.  I even read some of the course information to my family as I found they could benefit too!

Technology in the Class Room

I enjoy intergrating the internet and power point. What do you use?

Preparing in the Classroom!

I enjoyed this course tremendously!  It reminded me of some things I need to do--as well as gave me new information for classroom interaction.   It allows me to excel in my goal of being an excellent instructor!

Love the content of the course

As instructor i took this course and i loved it, it gave me more idea for the class room activity, to help the students and improve my skills

Interactive Teaching

I would like to see/hear of the latest and greatest technology and trends that students seem to be reponding to within the online learning environment. My technique is to create videos and post them on youtube for my students. This is of course above and beyond the classroom. I may choose to provide video critiques for their Individual Projects so that they better understand what they need to work on and perhaps where they excel within any given program. I also provide extra links and references within my classes. I am asking you - what else can I contribute and… >>>

Very Interesting

The questions that the onboarding are interesting.  They seem to make the person really think about why and what they are doing.

ED 117

Loved taking this course.  As a member of the Baby Boomer generation, it was very helpful to see the research that has been done on the various generations and the learning styles.  Good information to use in the classroom!

How to maintain energy in a 4 hour class

We have recently switched to a four hour block for classes. This creates a real challenge for the instructor to maintain classroom energy from 5:30 to 9:30. Students often come to class after a long work day. Activities and energetic music only goes so far. Teach two of these in a day plus office hours and tutoring, and teacher fatigue become a real issue as well. Is the four hour block the best scenario for teachers and students.

Online colleges in Canada vs U.S.: How does preparation for the medical office assistant differ with government-run health care?

I teach in Indiana, and would like to start a conversation with instructors in Canada. I am an audiologist, and teach several general education courses: Composition, Presentation Skills, as well as anatomy and physiology. Our college trains students for medical offices. the United States is gravitating toward government health care, and I would like to know if Canadian college instructors face particular challenges when training their students for the medical filed.

Taxonomy

I really enjoyed the class. I did have a time understanding the taxonomy that was presented and had to look up a simpler wayto understand it better other than that i liked it.

Getting the Student to stay Focus

Tough teaching is when a students or students start to wander on you.  You are working it when you can bring their mind back into the class room.  I found success by having them go to matters that they have encountered in life that relates to the material of the day.

Be Prepared

Learning in ED 105 Instructors must be prepared evertime you attent to your class.  Being organized will lead to a smooth flow class everyday without panic rather you turn into plan B.  Readiness is always there.
