Keeping the Class on Their Toes!

You must use visual learning tactics to keep your class interested and have them retain what you are teaching. By using this way of teaching you are able to understand the needs of your students

Improving Class Dynamics

I feel that being prepared is most important when going before a class.

Instructors will also aid in the classroom performance by building a rapport

with the students and showing the students that the instructor is concerned

with the students progress and overall achievement.

Instructors should make sure that they are in class on time and are also

available to meet with the students after class.

A Classroom Management Technique Instructors can Learn from Managers

One of The Lounge's bloggers and online course participants, Joseph Eid, recently commented that a teacher moving around the classroom is like a manager walking around the workplace. This is another good example of how our learning environment mirrors the workplace.

I like to refer to it as "pulse and pace." When an instructor moves around the classroom or lab, he or she can get a sense of the "pulse" of the environment - where the interest is, where lack of attention might be, where there is understanding and where there may be the lack thereof. Getting into the learning… >>>

instructor input in group learning experiences

My challenge when work with adult learners in self directed or group learning experiences in the classroom is how much involvement I have with their group discussion. I feel as if I am hovering and hesitant to step in as to not offend my adult learners. I wait until they are done and then interact with the whole class. What are your experiences? I feel as if I should take a facilitator course!

Workload Expectations

Due to our economy, many online teaching jobs are part-time.  In addition to teaching the class for minimal wages and no benefits, there are numerous, superfluous tasks, dealing with accreditation among other things.  How does one deal with this situation.  The salary does not justify the volume of time spent on non-teaching tasks.

Teaching toward the middle?

I find that many of the online courses have disparity when it comes to students learning style and skills to master the course competencies.  Sometimes teaching toward the middle leaves students on one side lost, whie those on the other side are bored.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

How do you reach students who disappear from the course?

I have trouble reaching some students, who sen to disappear from the course.  Does anyone have any tips?

Styles of Classroom Management

This was a genuine learning experience for me.  I discovered some errors that I have inadvertently been making and a new resolve to change and utilize the new tools that I learned regarding classroom management.

I particularly enjoyed learning about the different types of styles of classroom management!  Great course!

Reading your Students

Wow what an awesome course to truly see and understand where this generation is coming from.  Now i can use these tools to better understand what their needs are.

Generation Yers

This is a great course for understanding the mindset of this generation of new learners. I strongly recommend this course to all instructors

Preparing for Training: 6 Questions a Facilitator Should Ask Before the Event - Part 2

In our preparation questions, not only should we focus on the desired outcome(s) and skills, but also on the additional planning needed to deliver an effective training experience:

  • What resources are needed to deliver the training and to help participants acquire the expected or required knowledge and skills? Prior to training, we must identify the materials and support resources needed for the event or program. These are both the resources required to effectively deliver training as well as what is needed by the participants to engage in the process.

  • What delivery strategy, or strategies, will I use to>>>

ED111

This was a great course for reminding me "how" to teach rather than just lecturing or preaching to the students.  It's clued me in on how to involve the students and improve their learning experience overall, especially for adult students.

ED 107

This course if full of great reminders to have the classroom learning run smoothly. Highly recommended for the novice and veteran educators.

ED111....Interesting and Informative

I really enjoyed ED111 (Active Learning) as a reminder of the importance of allowing students to help facilitate their own learning.  I think far too often we get cornered into subjectively believing that lectures and pedogogical methods are the preferred method of teaching.  Adult learners are very different and flourish when active learning teachniques are employed.  ED111 reaffirmed my belief that enabling students to help each other and self-direct themselves to positive outcomes is an effective, and often necessary, method to successful learning.

ED112

I found ED 112 to be helpful in providing alternatives to helping adult students stay motivated. It was a great reminder to put myself in the shoes of the students that I am trying to teach. Seeing things from their perspective will help  me continually review and restructure my classroom approach as needed.

ED 110 and ED 115

I recently took ED 110 which I really enjoyed and learned a lot. It was the best course so far I took with CEE. I also completed ED 115 and while it was very informative, I really would have liked more information including examples for classroom application to this topic (EQ).

Education 106

Having completed and paid for several Introduction to Education courses long ago after I completed my BA in English so that I could acquire my Permanent and Standard Teaching Certificates, I find that much of this course was repetitive.  In some areas, there were helpful hints and suggestions for which I am grateful.

I resented all of the time I had to spend to merely access the training.

ed101

Skipped this learning module intitially realizing later that if I took the first 6 and passed them that I could receive a certification. What is great, is that I have completed the ed102, 3 and 5, so ed101 was easy and almost like a review because of the reiteration of topics and content throught all the following courses. Found it very helpful and a good review of educational SOP's modled by my contemporaries in the educational institution I work for.

Students as Customers

Just took this course and I totally recommended to understand the different types of listening skills, types of advising and adult learners.

Preparing for Training: 6 Questions a Facilitator Should Ask Before the Event - Part 1

Whether it's the classroom or the training room, the adult learner expects the same level of preparation to maximize the learning experience. Here are the first three of six questions that may help as we prepare our instruction and facilitation for the training environment:

1. What overall outcome is required or expected? Every training event should have an overall and definitive outcome - this keeps the focus on the purpose of the training and serves as a foundation to the specific skills needed to support the desired outcome.

2. What knowledge and skills do I want participants to>>>
