The Romance Languages in Health Care

In teaching nursing to learners whose primary language is not English, I try to utilize the Latin in assisting with root  word meanings. It helps them to see that knowing French, Italian or Spanish can be an asset. As an example, the term "nucchal" rigidity provides an immediate association for the Spanish person as "nuca" means neck.

As another example, a pontine infarct means something very specific to a French speaking person as "pont" is French for bridge. If you understand the bridge analogy, you see why a client with a pontine infarct has specific signs and symptoms.

I though tthis course was great!  I completed a section, then applied what I learned in my own classroom before completeing the next section.  I found the assessments to be very helpful and thought provoking.  I will definitely be recommending this particular course to my colleagues.

Instructional Confirmation

Taking this course reinforced my confidence in my teaching methods.  I agree completely with the techniques of modeling, managing and motivating that this course highlights.

ED105

This course is great.  It will help me tremendously as I am a first year instructor, but I think this would also be a good refresher for the verteran instructor.  I would recommend  this course to everyone!

ED 105

This course reinforced some practices I use and offered more options on new tatics to follow. I highly recommend this course to novice and veteran teachers.

ED 104

The timing was perfect for this course. The students are very restless and all the tips and information will contribute to keep the class focused and on target.

Ed-104

This class gave me great tips on many different areas. I like the psychomotor learning activity in this class. I will use this on my next ice breaker with my students.

edu107

It was nice and had some great info and tips.

Best Class

This was a great class.

ED105

This course was one of the best laid out that I have taken

The Instructor was very knowledgeable and helpful

I really enjoyed this course!!

ED 101

I just completed the ED 101 course and found many valuable pieces of information. I am taking on a new instructor role at a professional school where I will be mostly supervising the students-- not ever lecturing. At first I was skeptical about how this course could help me if I am not in front of the classroom, but many sections of the course will aid in my new role. The sections discussing the roles of an instructor and defining professionalism pointed out many things that apply to instructors in all roles. Also, the sections discussing the learning styles of students were very interesting… >>>

All of this learning is great...

The only suggestion I would offer is to create some "discipline specific" class training.  I am sure that teaching Sociology has it's own unique needs compared to an art class.

Otherwise, this is good refresher material.

a great review

This course is a great reminder of all the small steps needed to make a great teacher and class environment. I highly recommend this course to all veteran and novice teachers.

ED112

I just completed the course ED112, motivation of the adult student and found, simply, that I was doing multiple thing incorrectly. I think I have been fostering an environment which was demotivating. Little things, like waiting to respond to a a wrong answer, in order to figure out a way to subtly correct the answer, without wrecking the security level of the student, has not been happening in my classroom. I don't flat call anyone out and belligerently chastise a students ability, but the subtle nuances which aid in establishing classroom security, have been faint. To use an analogy, this is… >>>

helping student learn

it was very knowledgeable, having to teach younger and older student in the same class

This was a very helpful course!!

Learning

As instructors we are learning daily along with the students.

ED103

I was enlightened by the testing tidbits for developing the various types of exams and which type or types to utilize under what situations.  Much of this course had direct application(s) to the laboratory or classroom setting.
