Jeopardy

I play a game of Textile jeopardy with my class just before mid-term and the again before finals. All the students get really into it and every single time I have had great success with that. It helps student remember all the stuff we have done previously. They also like it that I devote an entire class period for preperation for the test. After jeopardy I give them trial swatches to practice and guide them through how to write the the answers. It is surprising that the students nay know the answer but need to be guided as to how to go about writing the answer in a meaning full and concise way and at the same time learn to finish the test on time.

Preparing for class

Each class needs to be planned and exercised in a logical and clear way. I usually have handouts and in-class assignmnets each class. I make it a point to have them printed and ready for distribution before each class. I also show videos and I make it point to have tvs or flashdrives etc. all organized before the class begins. I think a little bit of planning goes a long way to show students how to be professional and that we care about their time and success.

SUPPORT MATERIAL

USESING SUPPORT MATERIAL IN THE CLASS ROOM HELP KEEP THE STUDENTS ENGAGE.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE

YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT UNDERSTAND YOUR OBJECTIVE FOR THE LESSON SO THEY CAN APPLY IT TO THE SUBJECT THAT YOU ARE TEACHING SO THEY CAN STAY IN TUNE WITH THE SUBJECT.

Discussing Grades with Students

Letting students know where they are academically keeps the students aware of their progress. The instructor is able to guide the student where needed.

class participation

I find class participation is a good for getting to know one another. When my students have group projects it bonds the students and they enjoy it very much. It spices up subjects the students think are boring. Once they become involved that particular subject is now a favorite.

Developing a course outline

Developing a course outline is very important. Its a guide for you and the students. If a student miss class for any reason the outline will keep them on course and allow the instructor to stay on track. My students love the outline because it's detailed and if I'm not around for questions they can refer to the outline. I also use my past outlines to improve my future outlines. Education evolves and so does my outline with new material and learning tools.

The importance of a well organized classroom

The instructor is the leader and what you do is closely watched by students who want to follow in your footsteps. Being in control and organized sets a great example for the students. Having your course outline, study guide, informational materials, field trips, quizzes, etc reflects to the students that you care about them. A unorganized instructor projects a confused person. A classroom unorganized seems unfocused and all over the place. Therefore to be well organized in a well organized class speaks commitment, good teaching and a place for good learning.
