Organized and prepared to teach

When we spent more time organizing introducing the course becomes easier.

Extra credit

The issue of extra credit has come up for me a couple of times. In both cases, I had a student who was failing my course come to me near the end of the term and ask for extra credit so she could pass. In both cases I said no to this request due to her poor grade being a result of not coming to class and not doing any of her assignments. Does everyone think I made the right decision in those cases?

extra learning opportunities

Finding ways to expand the depth of projects tends to keep faster students engaged.

ED109, lesson plans

I feel that lesson planning (as in my situation) that constitute 6 or more hours of lecture, planning and schedueling are important. However, I also think that appropriate breaks out of the classroom IE: 30 min or even more every 2-hours to apply practical hands on exercises having to do with or in conjunction with the lecture material are even more appropriate than the lecture material. all day in the classroom is too much.

desired learning outcome

I have been using what we term as a "desired learning outcome" IE: what is expected to be learned from a particuler segment of the lesson plan? then we discuss the end result in order to gather input from the students actively involved in the course curriculem.

Lecture Time

Lecture time should consist of more than just reading to your students

testing

I give a 5 question test at the begining each new class to assess how much they know. Then I get them to write a short paragraph on what they think is important about the classes. believe it or not I get alot of insite out of this.

Time

Time management is very important in lesson planning.

lesson plans

I think lesson plans should be update on a regular base. Sometime the book does not really have anything to do with what I am teaching.

time management

I have to agree that time management is one of the most important things as an instructor. I use a lot of "to do" list and try extremely hard to stay on task. I also feel that my organizational skills help with my time management. I have everything in binders or folders.

Time Management

Always have enough material to cover that subject. If you run out of time, always start the next session where you left off from.

Organization is Key to Student Success

Organization is so important to students' success. When an instructor is organized, all of the objectives can be met and the "gray area" moments during class can be filled instead of having to run to the copy machine in order to make copies are fumbling around with the projector to project a PowerPoint presentation.

Field Trips

I have done several field trips for my students. But to get them all to agree due to transportation is very hard. Do you have any suggestions on how to present it so they will agree and be more enthusiastic about it?

RATIONALE

This is the first time I have seen RATIONALE on a lesson plan format , is this the same as MOTIVATIONAL STEPS , I use motivational steps as one of the content of my lesson plan which is important to get the students exited and really interested in the lesson presentation.
