Should there be more instructors teaching different fields in another language?

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is one of the most tool for assessment. To assess the student grade it is helpful.

Do you have difficulty with interpretation questions

Most beneficial questions for learning

What type of questions do you think would aid you most in learning.

How i speak

I really enjoyed this section . Ita has further improved the way i teach or facilitate objectives in my class. I am applying all this suggestions and man do they work . I am looking forward to the next section

Student relationships

Playing a short 'getting to know you' game will allow the students to be more comfortable with each other. They may notice strengths in on another and find better ways to work together.

Finding common ground with students

I feel that finding something in common with each student lays the groundwork for a relationship where you as the instructor become more approachable. Students may be more likely to come to you with problems or concerns if they aren't intimidated.

Color

This was an interesting topic for learning. Students do react to color schemes in the classroom environment.I have adpoted some ideas with this topic.

Your roles

This was a good tool for me. I really appreciate the ideas from this course. I am gettting my students involved in classroom discussions so that students are not bored during lectures or any learning other new experience.

Wait time

Wait time can be a speed trap. When you ask a question of a student that never gives answers, it's very easy to not wait for the student to answer. You have to force yourself to wait and then add -on a probing part of the question

Discussion

It is always important to be sure students are participating in active learning including asking questions, theaory and discussion

tests

I typically incorporate a combination of multiple choice and true/false questions in my tests. In my next class, I plan on introducing questions that require fill in the blanks or short essay responses. From what I've heard and read, its more effective to diversify the questions.

formative evaluation

I am an advocate of formative evaluation. It lets the student know where they stand in the course. My formative evaluation strategies consists of quizzes, tests and an occasional group project.

questions

I usually encourage students to ask questions during the lecture. Interestingly, I realized that the ones who ask questions frequently achieve better grades.

learning styles

The hardest thing is to figure out which learning styles is best suited for your students. It gets kind of complicated when half the class learns better through kinesthetic learning learning style and the other half prefers auditory or visual for that matter. An effective instructor needs to incorporate a combinations of these learning styles into a lecture.

Dealing with uninterested, unmotivated students

Every class, especially large classes, have a number of students who are "taking up space." They clearly don't want to be in school, do the bare mininum, are disruptive in class and serve to bring interested students down to their level. What is the best way to deal with them without resorting to running a college class like an 8th grade class?

Spend time focusing on each student on the first day

On the first day, after covering the syllabus, I try to talk to each student. We place our seats in a circle and I ask each them where they are from and what their aspirations are in this field. I think it promotes a positive environment and it's a great ice-breaker for the students.

Motivating the class

I teach the science for Massage Therapy. Some of the students have asked if they could work on me. Answer is negative. They are students, I am an instructor, and I feel uncomfortable completing an assessment on them in this field. I feel that some of the motivation is lost because of this. What can I do to compensate for this?

Pronouncing the student's name correctly

If a student does not feel welcome in a class, as an instructor, you are swimming against the tide, and not addressing them as they prefer, is swimming against the tide. I always confirm, not only the pronunciation of a student's name, but a preference for how they would like to be addressed. I have seen some unusual name swaps. No matter what the roster states as the name, go with what the student states. Building a rapport with a student begins with using their name, what they respond to, whether the data on the course roster or not.

'Thereis always someone smarter than you in the room'

I was a bit stunned that the paraphrase in subject line was mentioned in the video. I always operate under that assumption, but when I have mentioned it to other instructors, usually I get just a confused look.
