It is important for students to know where they stand so they will know what needs to be done to get the grade they need.
Letting students know where they stand in a course is very important. It can be motivating for both students to well and students doing poorly. Students who are doing well will be motivated to continue to do well and keep their grade high. Students who are not doing as well will be able to see how much they need to do in order to be successful in the course. However, when working with students who are doing poorly in your course you need to specifically speak with them about them still being able to raise their grade by working diligently to complete assigments and doing well on tests. If you do not do this then a student who is doing poorly will see it as a waste of time to try to do better.
It will keep students engaged and focused on the course content. If they are doing well, then students will be motivated to keep it up. If they are doing poorly, it will motivate them to try harder.
It allows students the ability to make any needed adjustments to their study habits
Hi Chris:
That's it exactly - showing the student what changes may be needed to have a more successful outcome.

Hi LeeAnn:
Electronic grading is a convenient and effective method of allowing the student's a regular view of their success in class.
Providing this to the students allows the chance to make changes in study habits as soon as possible, possibly facilitating a more successful outcome.

Hi Teresa:
Right, and it gives the student the opportunity to make changes in study habits as soon as possible, potentially facilitating more successful outcomes at the end of the course.

Hi Bonnie:
I like early and frequent intervention in order to give the student the most opportunity to improve. Sometimes, intervention occurs too late in the process and the student has too little time for their improvements efforts to make much difference.
Similarly, students like to know their progress (good or bad), and I think sooner is beeter. Each time we can connect with a student provides an opportunity to give them encouragement.

This is very important because it will help each other know where the student stands and if additional help is needed. It is better for the instructor to know before mid-terms if the student is falling behind and also for the student to know how they are doing and what additional steps may need to be taken by both instructor and student to rectify any lapses. Maybe the student needs additional one on one time explaining a process or the instructional methodology needs to be modified to better meet the needs of the classroom. This can only be determined by monitoring the status of the students in an ongoing basis.
It has always impressed me the importance students placed on immediate feedback. It seems that the primary complaint listed or discussed in relation to instructor evaluations is the timeliness of their feedback to student assignments and tests. This is the one issue that consistently emerges in evaluations.
I agree one hundred percent. My students definately come looking for their grades and thier moods change according to the outcome. It helps me to help them.
There are any number of reasions: Quelling anxieties, showing where improvement is needed, showing successes, and generally giving them an overview of what they need to do to succeed in the course as a whole.
Students need to know where they are at throughout the course. They need to be able to have their fate in their grasp. Knowledge is power, and knowing where they are at throughout the course enables the student to control their learning in a sense. There are no surprises, and the student will always know what is necessary to succeed in the course by keeping them apprised throughout.
This allows students to recalibrate what they are doing in class to achieve course objectives, or to give students the positive feedback needed to spur them on to successful completion of the class.
It is the fair thing to do so that they know how they are doing in the class. The grades are important to them. Also it helps me as an instructor feel up-to-date and more organized which helps me do my job better.
It keeps them informed on how they are doing in class, what they need to do better on, what are their strengths and weaknesses with the material taught and so forth. They are anxious to know what is going with their grades so it is important to let them know on a regular basis.
Keeping students aware of their progress and status can give them a good idea on what they need to improve on and help you develope a plan to work with this specific situation.
Hi Ashia:
Right! By informing students of where they are at, they can make changes in study habits as early as possible, creating a more probable successful outcome.

Students need to know where they stand at all times so they can allocate their study time and correct any grade shortfall before the final exam.
I think is vey important to keep students informed in their status in course so they can improve and also try to get better grades at Exams. Or in this case maybe work in assignments for EC.
