This is one instance where delayed gratification is counterproductive.
I think it helps the students along with myself I love to see their faces when I give them an update on their status and alot of times I see them work harder Rhonda
Hi Gail:
This also allows the student a chance to make changes in study habits as early as possible to facilitate more successful outcomes by the end of that course.

It is important that the student know where they are at in the class, so that they are not blindsided at the end of the course with a bad/failing grade. They need to know that they are learning the information correctly
It lets the student know where they are on understanding and applying what theyve learned. If they are struggling with the content or if they have a full understanding of what is being taught. It also lets the instructor know if the student is retaining what is being taught.
Hi Melissa:
In addition to keeping them on track, it can assist students to make changes in their study habits as soon as possible, making for more successful outcomes by the time that course has ended.

It is important to keep students informed of their status so the student and the instructor are aware of how they are doing in the course. It gives a opportunity to set up a meeting of the minds if a student is falling behind, whether it is from lack of effort or difficulty with the material. As a former student myself, I always wanted to know where I was with my grade to keep trying to improve.
It is important opportunity to help establish rapport with individual students, discuss the strengths of the student, and determine what can be done to motivate the student. Informing the student of status in the course, using a one-on-one opportunity sends a message to the student that s/he is important and you want to help the student achieve success.
I think it is important to keep students informed of their progress because it allows them to feel more in control and improve their participation or work quality if necessary. I know how it feels to be completely surprised by a final grade and it was an unpleasant experience. My instructor gave me no indication that my participation and presentations was less than satisfactory until he gave me my final grade, and I had a hard time accepting this grade. If we keep our students informed, then our students are more likely to regard their final grades as earned and fair.
It is important for students to know where they stand in your class do that if they need extra help, they can ask for it before it's too late.
I believe that it is very important to inform students of their status in a course. They have to know when they are not doing well. This gives then time to adjust their study habits in a way that will improve their grade.
Informing students of their status in a course is probably the most important, yet most difficult task an instructor has to undertake.
I teach technology courses, specifically computer programming, and there is no simple way around having to grade projects that take an inordinate time to grade. You have to upload student work, run the project, check to see if it meets all of the specifications, try to give partial credit if it does not work as expected, and provide formative feedback so that students don’t make the same mistakes on the next project.
I have seen other instructors use automatically graded multiple choice tests or assign papers to read offline to save time, but I believe this does a programming student a great disservice. We are preparing the student for careers as often pointed out. To assist with student learning, I often give a similar programming assignment in class and let all of the students work on the project together and provide help to one another. But eventually each student will have to be assessed individually to make sure they can do the work on their own. A good instructor will have to plan to invest the time to grade, there is no way around it.
Keeping students informed of progress gives the students to advantage of stepping up their game before it is too late.
I agree one hundred percent. My students definately come looking for their grades and thier moods change according to the outcome. It helps me to help them.
To motivate them to continue to learn and do better in the course.
I believe keeping the students informed will give them encouragement to see the progress and to help them see what areas they struggle in and need to focus on.
It is important to keep students informed of their status in the course at all times so that they have the best possible chance at succuss. If a student knows that their grade is in jeopardy of going from a B to a C, they are more likely to kick up the intensity of their work, instead of being lazy. Knowing where you stand as a student relieves stress and leads to more efficient work output.
It is important to keep students informed of their status in the course so that they will be forewarned if they aren't working up to standards. This will give the students the opportunity to pull their pants up if needed.
Keeping the student informed of there progress alows both the student and instructor to be made aware of the strengths and weekness of the student. We place grades in on a daily basses. At any time the instructor can see a student that may have an issue and respond to there needs.
It is an important point to keep students informed of their status in order for them to know where they stand academically. It gives them motivation for success and improvement which is extremely important in their learning and comprehension.
