It's important to keep the students informed of their status in the course at all times because this allows them to know when and if they are falling off track or if they need to study harder (differently). If they see that they are in good standing...then they know that their study habits work!

If students know how they are progressing in a course, and they can see the results of their success, they are more likely to remain committed to completing the course.

Hi Diana:
We have an excellent opportunity to both shae advice ad suggestions for improivement, but also offer encouragement and support, kind and caring words of comfort, and convey a sense that we care about the student's success.

Regards, Barry

Hi John:
This is really awesome! You've made a grade sharing activity into a learning activity. Terrific.

I think students like to hear how they're doing and if we can be upbeat, show care and genuine concern, they'll appreciate that and want to get more of that kind of feedback.

Great post!

Hi Lakiesha:
One of the ways we can help them want to do better is give advice, offer suggestions, but also give support and encouragement in thoughtful, caring ways that suggest we as teacher sincerely care about their successfulness. It's a great opportunity to make a good connection with our students.

I relate this to job performance. As an employee once you leave school, the only way you can improve and continually get better is to know how you are doing. That includes your strengths and weaknesses.

Their status may help them to understand what they need to concentrate on more to become successful. It also helps them to dedicate time and energy to future assignments. It also focuses on specific areas that the individual learner needs to focus to achieve their personal goals and ambitions. Where the learner stands in the class can be where the learner can stand in the industry. Finally it gives the instructor the ability to change or keep the method of delivery to fit the individual learning style of the student, and shows the learner that you want them to succeed.

Gives the student an idea of progress and provides
the information for students to work on improvement in coursework.

I find that the more I keep students informed, the more they want to be onformed. This process has now become a teaching tool. It encourages students to hit the hard spots when an update of their situation is not good. It also rewards them when they are doing well AND GIVES THE SENCE OF URGENCY TO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.. I think that this is the one key element that really helps students succeed. They are also more in touch with thjeir instructor and appriciate them more because the instructor is doing their job well and showing them that they care. A status report should be givin as soon is a student is in trouble and not on specific days of a course. It may be to late by then for the student to recover.

Informing students on what their status are in the course keep the students wanting to do better in the class and beside if a student is failing the class they have no reason on being upset at the end because they had ampule of time to do better.

Hi Jayme:
You're right, sometimes teachers make entry mistakes.

I think it's important to meet with students as frequently as possible, to give advice, suggestions for improvement, and also to show our human side of caring, offering encouragement and support. Students appreciate knowing their status, and also knowing their teacher care about their success.

It's uncomfortable to not know where you stand when you are working hard for something. Even students who get great grades like to know where they stand, and want to make sure that I've imputted all of their grades correctly and that they haven't inadvertantly missed an assignment. It's also a way to keep students on track, and to keep them from being shocked at the end of the course if they do not do well. Thanks!

Hi Jamison:
Good analogy - if it was relative to us as students, so it is with our students.

I think frequent sharing of grades, points, and status keeps us connected to the student so they feel we're real, approachable, and care about their success.

Hi Joseph:
Exams is part of it.

Frequent sharing grades, points, or status in the course helps students identify where additional study is needed in order to meet or exceed the goals of their courses.

We can also share words of encouagement and support showing we care about their success, too.

Regards, Barry

they will know to aim higher for success.

So they will know what to expect on their exams.

As a student, I always wanted to know where I stood in the class, so as an instructor I make it a focus to grade things quickly and give the students the immediate feedback.

Hi Ray:
Frequent sharing of grades, points, and status is important so the student can make adjustments, see a diiference, and achieve the grades they want.

I always add that we can also use this time to offer some encouaragement and support. By thoughtful caring, students will appreciate our efforts and recognize we're interested in their success.

Hi Theresa:
Sure! When we spend time informing students of their performance, we are still teaching by advising, suggesting, helping, and conveying ways to achieve good performance.

We can also offer encouragement and support at this time. When student feel we care about their success, they'll be more attentive and likely to apply the suggestions we've given.

Regards, Barry

Hi Caren:
Yes, without information, studnts tend to assume the worst, so I agree, providing frequent status updates and showing a caring attitude demonstrates we care and are concerned for the students success in the class.
