Hi John:
Yes, we can inform but also show care and concern, lending a sense of approachability that goes along with encouragement, support, advice, and suggestions for improvement.

Regards, Barry

Hi Lola:
Weekly evaluations are terrfic. I think the more frequent evaluation occur, the better able the student will be to make large and small adjustments to their study and preparation.

Regards, Barry

Hi Jorge:
Yes, but not just improvement. Suggestions for planning, encouragement and support, and caring words of concern can be received well by sudnts who may feel something more than just academics is neeed.

Regards, Barry

Hi Marshall:
Yes. all studnts wnat to know where they stand. Electronic gradebooks havemade this more instantaneous, but it still lacks the human touch of encouragement, support and offering assistant or suggestions for improvement, things that the electronic grade can't do well (although comments can be added, it just no the same as when the teacher is show care and concern).

Regards, Barry

Students need to know where they stand. I encourage my students to review their grades frequently and ask questions. For students that appear to have a difficult time in assignments because of work or attitude, then I counsel them as to why there are issues or what I can do to help. If students are not paying attention to their collective grades, then the mid-quarter or end of quarter grade can be a unpleasant surprise.

Hi David:
Well, maybe they'll still be shocked, but it doesn't have to be because they weren't informed of their staus all along the way!

Frequent sharing grades or staus does give students information, and also give us the opportunity to show we care by offering encouragement, support, advice, and suggestions for improvement.

Regards, Barry

Hi Robert:
We can give information about grades, and students will appreciate that.

We can also offer encouragement and support, showing we care about their success.

Regards, Barry

Hi Cynthia:
You're right most students want to know how they're doing as soon as possible. Some schools use electronic grading which give instantaneous results.

But regradless of the manner in which grade innformation is discussed, Ibelieve we also need to assist students by giving some encouragement and support, showing a caring attitude, and offering ourselves to students for ways to acheive their successfulness. Appreciation, respect, and satisfied students will be the result.

Regards, Barry

Hi Christopher:
You're right, no one likes surprises. So frequent sgharing of grade, or providing a mechanisim for it (electronic grading) is vey helpful. We can use any time we spend talking grades by also asisting by giving encouragement and support, reassuring students they can accomplish whatever they want. This offers hope. And I think with ope comes motivation to succeed.

Regards, Barry

Hi Rebecca:
Sometimes students assume the worst and ar surprised how close to getting a good grade they are. I think your frequent status updates are important as everyone wants to know how they're doing - good or bad. We can use this opportunity to also add advice, encouragement ad support, suggesting we cre about their success. As you point out, studnts are usually appreciative.

Regards, Barry

Hi Kimberly:
Good point. Students ma different motivations, and many may be willing to settle for a lesser grade just to get by. Othes strive for the highest grade they can earn.

In any event, frequent sharing of progress and giving positive feedback and assistance will tend to help all categories of students. What they do with the information is up to them, but they will appreciate the information if given with care and encouragement.

Regards, Barry

Hi Marsha:
So, we have allkinds. Everyone probably wants to to do their bet (but everyone doesn't want to do the work to earn those grades). Therefore, early intervention, frequent encouragement and status updates can at least provide the potential for studnts to demonstrate their doing their best.

Regards, Barry

Hi David:
Right - early intervention. Plus, while we're sharing grade information, we can be upbeat, positive, and offerr encouragement and supportive assistance that'll make the student feel better about their learning and themnselves. We want to show we care about their success.

Regards, Barry

I believe students need feedback to help keep them motivated. Either to maintain a good grade, or motivate them to try harder (or get help) if they are having difficulty in a certain area

Hi Jaclyn:
Knowledge seems like it always reduces stress and worry; information rules! I think freuent sharing of performance is better, and taking a bit of extra time to encourage with support and advice on how to improve can help the teacher/student relationship too.

Regards, Barry

Hi Larry:
Yes, this important to frequently share status and give advice and suggestions for improvement while thee's still time to make changes. Being supportive also shows the student their teacher cares about thir success.

Regards, Barry

Hi James:
I agree and also fee the more frequent we can share information, even informally, the student will appreciate that all the more; they'll sense "this teacher cares".

Regards, Barry

A lot of students get anxious when embarking on a new career path. By constantly informing them of their progress they can be secure in their standing. There is nothing worse than making them wonder about their standing.

The students eally want to know where they stand in your class at all times. This is important for the student as well as the instructor. There are the no surprises at the end of the course regarding grades.

I teach in both clinical and classroom settings so I do weekly clinical evaulations on each student as well as making sure they know their test grades each week.
