It demonstrates professionalism to students and helps them respect the instuctor. It also allows the instructor to better respond to unexpected occurences (such as having "Plan B"), and ensures things are not misplaced. Students can see that the instructor is organized and it will encourage them to follow suit.

Hi Kim:
True, a requirement of any instructor should be to be prepared for any lesson or assignment. Organizing courde material requires planning, and that takes time, effort, and careful thought. Unprepared teachers will not have put forth this kind of effort.

Hi Jacky:
Being prepared does require the teacher to have all their ducks (mice) in order in order to attain a realistic level of preparation. Meaningful interaction is more likely when this is tyhe case.

Hi William:
Boy, you are right! Being prepared anf getting prepared consists of different mindsets. As you've aptly pointed out, getting prepared is more than gathering resources but a way of life for serious educators.

I feel that it is important for an instructor to be organized and prepared for each class because we need to set a good example for our students. If we want them to be successful than we need to lead by example and being prepared is very important in any industry.

If you are not organized, you are not prepared to fulfill your role as an instructor.

It is what I call my mental mise en place.I am totally focused and prepare to interact with my students

yes it is important that the student see you are well organized and ready to make his learning experience productive. But another dimension of this is that the process of "getting organized" is a good way for the instructor to train or refresh himeself: review the lesson plan and make adjustments to leson objectives and desired student behaviors; develop new hand outs and get rid of ineffective ones; confirm student reading assignments and make changes as necessary; read new professional literature that may have application to the lesson plan, classroom setting, and required readings, and so on.

Hi Tony:
I agree. Having lessons prepared in such a way that anyone (with the technical background) could step in using prepared materials could teach the class is one goal of being prepared.

Hi Tony:
Great!. I'm glad you're getting useful assistance from this course.

Hi Randy:
You're right, even the smallest break in the daily flow can make for a most hazardous day or lesson. Preparation ahead of time really pays off in these examples.

This is exactly my point as well. Prepare well for yourself and if someone else needs to step in they too would be preparred.

Yes, It has and does work very well. It has also worked well for class time management. The students usually complete the assignments or lab tasks early, rather than later. Thank you for your response.

I always try to make copies of class material at least a day in advance. I never know if the copier will break down or I might have an emergency that keeps me from class. So having the material ready is important and if I can't be there, I have the material ready for a substitute.

Hi Anton:
Great! Students will perceive what a professional looks like in our role modeling. If they see us prepared, organized, ready to go without a lot of clutter, they'll feel better about their classes and instructor.

Regards, Barry

I believe it is important to maintain professionalism, and prepardness to allow the students to see they are going to get the education they came for. In our field we want to be confident and prepared so as to instill this confidence, professionalism, and preparedness into your students as well.

Hi Brook:
Being prepared sets the tone for whole class. As you say, there can be some diminished respect if a messy, disorganized, unprepared teacher is what student learn to expect every day. So, reversing that by mutual courtesy and respect, on time, materials ready, thorough lesson, even pace, frequent breaks in the sequencing, even less serious periods all contribute to that prepared teacher. I'm sure there are many more examples as well.

Hi Cynthia:
Great! First impressions count. Sustained orgaization demonstrates to students the real world of work expects organized workers and here we have an opportunity to lead by example.

Regards, Barry

I feel being organized is very important - it shows the students what will be expected from them in the days of the course & may put them more at ease in order to accelerate their learning.

Students are very perceptive and when they think their instructor isn't prepared or does not have a firm grasp on the material they do not repect the them or their instruction.
