It is important for the instructor to set the example for how the student needs to be prepared once out in the workforce.

I think it is important for the instructor to set the example for characteristics the student should employ once they have entered the workforce.

Hi David:
Good, true sentiments! You know, in your particular profession, it occurs to me that even minor errors could have significant adverse effects on patrons and customers. So, not being fully prepared really is not an acceptable option. Instilling that importance to students may be difficult (or not), but it surely needs appropriate emphasis.

I find that, especially in my feild (Culinary), it is important to lead by example and as teachers we are also leaders, encouragers and supporters. Being unprepared for anything is completely unacceptable and is an unjustice to the PRIVELAGE of being a teacher. We are proffesionals who havethe opportunity to lead people down the correct path and make a positive change on their lives every day. Being unprepared contradicts that whole privelage and makes you unworthy to lead in the eye of the student who desperately needs to look up to you. Anyone feel the same?

Hi Jeffrey:
I agree that's the hoped for outcome. And you're right, prepared and organized "suggests" the class will be conducted in similar fashion.

For an instructor to be organized and prepared for class really gives peace of mind and shows that you are knowledgeable of the subject matter.

Hi Bryan:
Students will respect a teacher and their objectives when they perceive we are ready, willing and able to "knock their socks off"!

it creates a better learning environment

Hi Danny:
Good organization is always helpful. Making it meaningful and full of life is our job as instructors. We can do that by being open, willing to spend time and be patient, and keeping the lessons interesting.

We work from a daily lession plan and follow it and the Syllabus to the T.It's important that the students have all the information up front.

Hi Anthony:
Sure. Students pick up subtle clues about an instructors knowledge, confidence, and class management style pretty quick. Conveying your prowess as the leader and expert will help steer the course in the right direction.

Hi Cara:
I thinks having everything written and discussed that will impact a grade, performance, or instructor expecatation is a good model. The trick is to anticipate what is necssary to include. Some things ought to be common sense, but one never knows where a student will assume something different from the instructor.

Hi Ricky:
Informing students about class goings on and the daily plan are essential to achieving the outcome you're interested in. Often the teacher has to try to get the idea across by different methods or approaches. Better teachers are willing patiently try multiple avenues and not give up until the student has learned the material.

If you don't have a good platform or if you are not organized for that day. The students will not know what is happening that day. They may lose interest real quick or they will ask certain questions that will doubt your ability to teach them. You should be able to stay on task and be able to answer any question they ask within reason 2 or 3 different ways. So if they don't understand, then you can phrase the answer a different way to get the point across.

It shows the students that you are professional and serious about the class.

It is very important because it helps the students focus and know what lays ahead, not only for that day, but for the whole course.
