Hi Sherri:
Indeed - the student might lose respect for us the instructor because our behavior (in this situation) is not demonstrating a respect for their willingness to be there.

Hi Paul:
Rightly said - the student tends to tune out more often, which may result in them missing key information. All of this due to the instructor's inability to maintain consistent organization.

to make sure that you have everything for your class so never to be anxious during teaching and then give your students anything helping them to enroll and understand the teaching contents
It is important to be organized and prepared for class so the class is as productive as possible. Being unorganized wastes precious class time. It is also important because it shows the students that I care about them and want them to be successful. I can't expect them to be prepared if I'm not.
Being prepared for a class sets the "mood" for the class and contributes to positive interaction between student and instructor.
If an instructor seems rushed and ill prepared it may indicate to the student the instructor is not giving sufficient time to the course. As an instructor I ask students to study topics prior to coming to class and to be ready to discuss upcoming material. If I do not require the same of myself- it would be contradicting of what I ask of my students.
I feel many times that instructors need to lead by example. If I ask students to be prepared-I should support this need by also being prepared.
Hi Erin:
Something to consider would be to have a back-up plan in case this happens again. Making copies earlier is agood idea, but howabout not needing copies at all, and just have the students do an electronic assignment, or group activity?

Hi Anthony:
If we unintentionally send this kind of negative message, it may cause the student to tune out during class, which will result in them missing key information.

Hi Vernise:
I think consistent unpreparedness will undoubtedly result in a loss of credibility, and student's will be more likely to tune out or not participate in their own learning.

Hi April:
Unpreparedness may result in a loss of credibility that can not be repaired.

Hi Frances:
More on this concept of setting the tone, it may also be a good idea if the instructor come in and routinely greet the group to set a positive tone. Better yet, do this while reviewing the daily objectives!

Hi Ulises:
In addition to confusion, it may create a loss of credibility with the instructor that may never be reparable.

Being Prepared for class serves several purposes.
It allows the class to run more smoothly
Demonstrates respect for your students and the learning environment,
Helps the students to keep up with the flow of the lessons and to be prepared to execute the objectives of the class.
Although the positive aspects of preparation & organization are often overlooked or taken for granted, lack of preparation may be viewed negatively. Whether it land as a lack of respect or an issue of caring, it can leave an impression that will break the flow of the event & can easily impact the retention of the material. One does not necessarily need to be neat to be organized but, “Organization is the Key to Successâ€
Showing up to class right on time is fine as long as the materials you are going to use for that day have been set up prior. When a student watches an instructor comes in on time and sits at thier desk preparing things during the time they are supposed to be teaching student can become restless and the instructor has lost the attention of the student for the rest of the day.
When students come into a classroom that is organized, welcoming and ready for learning, they need not focus on anything other than learning. I like to arrive early, and assure thatthe room is clean, organized, comfortable and welcoming
students will know if you are not organized or prepared. They will 'check out' mentally and you will not be as effective in teaching them the knowledge or skills needed.
If you are organized/prepared then your class time will be productive.
It is important for instructors to be prepared and organized for each class because it lets the students know that the instructor cares about the students and their education. Being prepared also presents a professional image and impresses upon the students the importance of professional behavior.
An student may say why I am going to be prepared for the class when my instructor is not prepared, he/she is not organized and he/she is always running late?
It is important to be organized and prepared to not only to lead by example but also to show respect for the students
If you are unorganized, the students will pick up on it and the class will be disorderly, also it will affect your teaching style.
Hi Joseph:
When student feel their teacher is both cnfident and competent, that will instill a willigness to coorespond in like manner. Respect will result.
Unprepared is unprofessional. And disorganized conveys poor planning - neither trait is conducive to a good learning environment.
