It is important because it shows the students that you are prepared and ready. I feel it also shows them that you care enough about them and the course you are teaching

Hi Kelly:
Organization reflects something about the skills the teacher has in providing instruction. The preparation suggests the effort the teacher has put in to assuring their students will get their money's worth in every lesson and moment while they are in class.

Even though it's work, I think most students appreciate the organization and preparation a good teacher will go to in order to convey "I care your learning".

Regards, Barry

It shows the students that you care and respect their time. The instructor can be more effective and focused on teaching the learning objectives for the class period. I think that being prepared with a plan for the lecture gives more time for class discussion and helps keep the discussion on topic.

Being prepared helps keep the class on point and moving along. It will also set the standard for the students.

It is important to be prepared and organized for class to set am example for the students. When the students see that the instructor is prepared and organized then the students will see how important it is. It also reinforce to the students that they need to be prepared and organized for their careers.

Good response, Glenda. The level of anxiety is one area that I did not initial think about. Also, I agree with your comment about the seriousness of teaching. When students are investing their time, money and resources they expect the same from the instructor.

Organization demonstrates a level of preparedness to the students and can boost their confidence in the instructor’s abilities. I also believe that demonstrating good organization skills aids in presentation of course materials that is often easier to follow. When the course content can be understood and there is likely an increase in student engagement. Finally, I think organization and preparedness lends to the instructor’s credibility.

It lets the students know you are concerned for their time and want them to make the most of your classroom experience. Utilizing handouts as well as the syllabus enables the student to know what you expect and shows your willingness to help them learn.

Without proper organization and preparation the teacher would be viewed as unsuited for the position. this could also lead to chaos in the classroom or total loss of control.

In my opinion this send a very powerful message to the students that you are in control and ready to teach. They have enough with their own personal problems and academics in school. The last thing they need is chaos in the classroom. That aside, as an instructor you should always lead by example.

There is great power in organization. It not only saves valuable class time, but helps avoid teacher frustration as well. As an instructor, being organized shows the students that your care. They see that you put time an effort into your planning. Additionally, this organization keeps the class moving forward without unwanted deviations that can become a distraction and interrupt the learning process.

I believe the key to organization is simplicity. Have your course planned out by weeks and copy appropriately. If your copier is down or you were detained, reviewing material until your break time and introducing topics can delay your need for copied materials until you can sneak in a time to make the copies. As for knowing the material, that comes with time. The first month was rough, but we all seem to make it if we are dedicated. Good luck everyone!

That help student respect the instructor

I teach video production. There is a saying on shoot days that if you are not early, then you are late. I preach this to my students again and again. IF I am late then they have every right to hold me to the same standard.

If it's an exam, I agree that a projectable version would be best, but for a quiz it is easy to adapt book questions so they can look in the book or even put the questions on the board.

It happens to everyone. Just hope you're at an institution that will get the copier repaired in a timely manner!

Being prepared and well organized is key to success in teaching. It is critical to get the most out of each class, lab, and clinical hour of instruction. By being prepared, having extra handouts, always have a plan B if your original teaching modality fails (for example, internet connectivity issues, computer or AV equipment not operational). I have also found it important to have additional course content readyt to go, should a class move through a unit of instruction more quickly than anticipated. In addition, have a variety of teaching modalities, including active learning strategies to engage students with different learning styles.

Leading by example.
Being in the industry where we consistantly talk about "mis-en-place" it's important to follow through those same instructions yourself.

Being organized and prepared means that you show respect for your students, you are disciplined and can demand discipline from the students.
It enables you to concentrate on what’s important ………instructing.

It is important to be organized and prepared to teach becuase this sets an example for the students and they are suppose to carry themselves in the work world.

While it is ideal to copy a day in advance, it is not always possible. For exams, an alternative might be to have a projectible copy available so the entire class can see it.
